  2. Imperialism • The policy of domination by one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another country or region.

  3. Colonialism • the control or governing influence of a nation over a dependent country, territory, or people.

  4. Colonialism vs ImperialismColonialism and imperialism are often used interchangeably, but they are two different words having different meaning. As both colonialism and Imperialism means political and economic domination of the other, scholars often find it hard to differentiate the two.

Colonialism vs. Imperialism Continued • Though both the words underline suppression of the other, Colonialism is where one nation assumes control over the other and Imperialism refers to political or economic control, either formally or informally. In simple words, colonialism can be thought to be a practice and imperialism as the idea driving the practice.

  10. National Security • A collective term for the defense and foreign relations of a country, protection of the interests of a country.

  11. National Hegemony • Predominant influence exercised by one nation over others with or without the use of force.

  12. Natural Resources • The natural wealth of a country, consisting of land, forests, mineral deposits, water, etc.

  13. Social Darwinism • The ideas of survival of the fittest used on the human condition.

  14. White Man’s Burden • the alleged duty of the white race to care for subject peoples of other races in its colonial possessions.
