  1. Watercolor Project Landscape with House or Barn

  2. Watercolor Project • Start with a photograph and draw onto watercolor paper using a lightly drawn grid.

  3. Watercolor Project • Start with the wet-in-wet techniquefor the sky. • Using a 1 1/2" flat brush dampened the sky area of the paper, taking care to cut in the edges of the barn correctly, use a mix of two blues for the initial wash.Make a darker mix of brown and blue and darkened the sky towards the lower left. Carry the same tone to a few foliage areas in the foreground.

  4. Watercolor Project • Add color to the barn. • Take a 1/2" flat brush with the brown/blue mix plus some purple, it must be fairly dry. To create texture in the face and sides of the barn.

  5. Watercolor Project • Using washes of green, dark and brown flow on the fields of green grass.Vary this tone to darken and gray down the background hills and woodsy areas.

  6. Watercolor Project • Add trees using green, dark green and brown. • The cast shadow was important to the composition and drama of this barn, add the few building details to the rest of the barn using a small round brush.Other details were built up, such as the fence to the right and the drainage trough in the foreground.

  7. Watercolor Project • Using a combination of blue, and brown, add the windows and open door details as well as picking out shadows on the rough surfaces.
