  2. Let’sstartbylearningwhatan ATC is? • ATC = Air Traffic Controller • Where are they? • Listen to the recording on page 26, and answer the questions from 1 to 8. • Which job would you prefer, to work as a pilot or as an ATC?

  3. Now, read on the same page… hold on! Questions ahead! • Oh yeah! Read letter b. • Alright. How on earth do we know if it is progressive/continuous, simple or perfect? • In every language, there are NARRATIVE TENSES = tenses and time references which help us situate in a context.

  4. Long story short! • There are 2 tenses = Past and Present Tense. • The other ones such as, past perfect, past perfect continuous, past continuous, past simple, present perfect, present perfect continuous, present continuous and present simple… wow, such a long list… they are only time references, i.e. they place us at some point in time. The meaning of verbs and other words also help you use one or the other. • EXAMPLE… • Immediately panic BROKE OUT/WAS BREAKING OUT • As panic just happens and it is not sustained in time, “broke out” (past simple) is chosen and “was breaking out” (past continuous) is left aside.

  5. Have a look at letter c • Let’s go to the grammar bank on page 136 and letter e. Why are you really learning this? • For telling anecdotes … • Have a look at page 27, activity, 8 letter b.
