  2. School Mission Statement & Motto • Mission Statement: Students are a priority at Escobedo Middle School. Our efforts to encourage individual talents and dreams are reflected in our classrooms, programs, and actions. • School Motto:SIKHONA..We Are Here Now Because Of You.The word Sikhona comes from the tribes of Northern Natal in South Africa. A typical greeting, “Zawau Bona” means, “I see you.” If you were a member of this tribe, your answer would be,”Sikhona,” which means, “I am here now because of you.” In the same way, our staff at Escobedo is here because of you, our students.

  4. Attendance • Nevada State Law (NRS 392.040) requires that ALL students between the ages of 7 and 17 attend school for the entire time the school is in session • BE HERE! It’s the LAW! It can prevent you from getting a license at some point. • Students accumulating more than ten (10) unexcused absences within a semester may lose credit and receive an F for the class in which the absences accumulated.

  5. What if I’m Absent? • You must bring a signed note from parent/guardian or doctor to the auxiliary office. Time stamp it and put in basket. • If you do not bring a note your absence will be unverified. • Notes must be turned in within 3 days of being absent. • Students are responsible for any work that is missed. YOU MUST SEE YOUR TEACHERS!

  6. Arrival, Dismissal, Activities & Athletics • Students are not allowed on campus until 8:40 a.m. Do not come to school earlier! There is no supervision. Students on campus early will be brought to the auxiliaryoffice and parents will be called. (Exception: Early Bird) • All students that walk and get dropped off must enter through the doors by the bike rack. • All bikes/skateboards must be secured in the bike rack. Escobedo is not responsible for damaged or stolen bikes/skateboards etc. • You must walk your bike through parking lots! • You cannot leave once you enter the quad/building area. • Students are expected to leave campus upon dismissal unless attending an after school activity or club. • Once you leave, you may not return to attend a club, activity, or utilize the late activity bus. • We encourage you to attend Boxer Basketball games! When arriving, you must sit on the “home” side and abide by all school rules. Students/guests from other schools, must sit on the “visitor” side. (You must have School ID)

  7. School Breakfast • Escobedo offers breakfast in the cafeteria. Students need to bring cash or use their meal plan. • *Food and drink MUST be consumed in the cafeteria only! No gum on campus EVER! • If students are late because of a late bus they will still be provided an opportunity to eat. • Late walkers or drop off students will be directed to class.

  8. Tardies • Students must be in their classroom or locker room (PE) when the bell rings. • Each teacher will keep track of tardies. • Tardy 1 = Warning • Tardy 2 = Warning • Tardy 3 = Student Conference • Tardy 4 = Call Parent and Teacher Intervention • Tardy 5 = Call Parent and Counselor Referral • Tardy 6+ =Aux Office Referral (Progressive Discipline)

  9. Personal Items • Students will carry backpacks throughout the day. There will be no lockers (except PE lockers). • YOU are responsible for personal items such as cell phones, Chromebooks, bikes, and notebooks. • Electronic devices cannot be used to take pictures or video anywhere on school campus or buses. • Cell phones may only be used before school, during lunch, or after school. Earbuds are not allowed to be used on campus, except at lunch. • Cell phones CAN be confiscated and may require parent pick up.

  10. Lunchroom Procedures • Before school and during lunch times bathrooms will be available to use in the Cafeteria. • If it is your lunch you are to be in the Cafeteria. • Leave seats open to include everyone! • Stay in one seat with your feet under the table. • All food is eaten in the cafeteria only! • Throw your trash away and clean up your area after eating. • Only get in line if you are buying food! • Get in line immediately. Do not wait, you will not receive a pass. • Wait for your table to be dismissed. • Use your cellphones after you get your food.

  11. Boxer Bones & Boneyard • Earn Boxer Bones when caught displaying positive behaviors! • Save them up for big items, like t-shirts or hoodie, or spend them every Wed morning in the cafeteria at the Boneyard store! Boneyard will open in 2 weeks. • Quarterly contests by grade level! Earn spirit days or even gift cards!

  12. CCSD Dress Code • All clothing must cover undergarments. • Provocative, see-through, tank tops, muscle shirts, strapless, spaghetti straps, low cut midriff or open back clothing should not be worn. Straps must be 3 inches, not 3 fingers! Your stomach or back should not be visible. • Shorts/skirts/jumpsuits must be fingertip length. • You may not wear torn, ripped, frayed jeans or pants in any design above the knee. Even if there is fabric under the fray/tear. Wear them on weekend! • Shoes must contain soles. Slides must be worn with socks. No slippers, or wheels. • If you sag (You will be given a zip-tie) • There should be no offensive or inappropriate sayings or pictures on your clothing, including socks. This includes anything promoting but not limited to: vulgar, obscene, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, hate/violence, or is culturally or morally offensive. • Hats, hoodies, bandanas, or caps are not permitted. • Spiked or studded clothing and jewelry and/or accessories are prohibited. • Cold weather items such as coats, mittens, hoods and scarves may be worn to school, but must be removed once inside the building.

  13. Buses • You need a pass from a teacher AND be registered for bussing to ride the late bus. • The “Late Bus” is for bus riding students that stay after school with a club, teacher, or organized school activity. No late bus Tuesdays or Fridays. • You must notify your parent if you stay after school and they must pick you up by 4:15.

  14. Possible Discipline Consequences • Classroom specific interventions • Student/Parent Conference • Phone Parent/Guardian • Auxiliary Office Detention • In-House Suspension • Required Parent Conference • Suspension • Behavior Program (3 Weeks)-Star On • CCSD Behavior School • Recommendation for Expulsion

  15. Urgent Behaviors/Expulsion • Battery on a school employee • Battery to a student • Drugs, alcoholic beverages- use, possession, and distribution • Weapons- use, possession, concealment, or transmittal. Examples include, but are not limited to firearms, knives, explosives, flammable material, BB guns, pellet guns, paintball guns, etc.

  16. Bullying, Cyberbullying, Harassment, and/or Intimidation • Any oral, written, or electronic communication/conduct that is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive as to have an effect on any student’s educational program, or create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive school atmosphere. • Each classroom has a Bullying/Cyberbullying poster or see the Auxiliary Office for any questions.

  17. Bullying NRS 388.1351 • Bullying is prohibited by the state of Nevada. • It can be a single SEVERE act or repetitive. • If you are reported as a bully discipline will occur. • This includes recording fights or altercations! • School Police can and will be involved if necessary. • In addition, families of victims DO have the right to file LEGAL charges against you!

  18. Cyberbullying is against the law! • What you post is captured FOREVER! • THINK BEFORE POSTING! • Use your Boxer Be’s! Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Kind

  19. Remember that School Expectations Apply… • At School • At the Bus Stop and on the Bus • In the Parking Lot • On the Way to and from School • On Facebook, Instagram, Snap, Twitter, Blogs, Websites, Text Messages, email, etc. • At all CCSD schools or trips.

  20. Any misbehavior that you choose to engage in that negatively affects another person’s ability to feel comfortable and safe at school will not be tolerated! • Anywhere, Anytime, Any Day!

  21. Clubs and Activities • There are many clubs, dances, intramurals, athletics, and concerts Escobedo has to offer. • Activity Fair will be before school on 8/28to sign up for Activities and Clubs! • All Behavior Expectations still apply during these events and you will be ineligible to participate if you are on RPC or Suspension. • You will need your school ID and there may be admission fees to some events. You will get ID on picture day 8/28

  22. Know that EXPECTATIONS are put into place to protect you and your learning environment. We love our school and look forward to a great year at Escobedo! SIKHONA!
