  3. Major Areas of Interest • An MAI is selected by the student • 4 MAI credits are required for graduation • Students may change MAI each year as part of annual course registration processes and should update their education plans accordingly

  4. Major Areas of Interest • The tentative timeline for districts to update their MAI/course availability is from January 1, 2009, through February 27, 2009. A detailed memorandum with will be sent to all District Superintendents in June 2008. August-October Submit new MAIs or update existing MAIs October – December DOE review and approval time January – February Update MAI selections for upcoming school year.

  5. Major Areas of Interest • If signed into law, Senate Bill 1908 will require that by the 2008-2009 school year, each standard high school diploma shall include, as applicable: • A designation of the student's major area of interest pursuant to the student's completion of credits as provided in s.1003.428. • A designation reflecting completion of four or more accelerated college credit courses if the student is eligible for college credit pursuant to s. 1007.27 or s. 1007.271 in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Advanced International Certificate of Education, or dual enrollment courses. • A designation reflecting career education certification in accordance with s. 1003.431. • A designation reflecting a Florida Ready to Work Credential in accordance with s. 1004.99.

  6. Major Areas of Interest • Data files at NWRDC (this school year only) • FRN.DISTRICT.FACTS.EPEP.MAI.NAMES – MAI codes and titles • FRN.DISTRICT.FACTS.EPEP.MAI.COURSES – Courses that can be used (statewide) to satisfy each MAI (MAI and Course codes) • FRN.DISTRICT.FACTS.EPEP.SCHOOL.MAI – MAIs and courses offered, by school • To improve update frequency, the files for the coming year will be available for download from the DOE A++ website (www.fldoe.org/APlusPlus/) • Same format as NWRDC files • The web page will indicate the last date the files were updated.

  7. Middle School Promotion • Established in s. 1003.4156 (F.S.) • Started with 2006-2007 incoming sixth graders • Must successfully complete an academic and career planning course, which includes the completion of an ePEP on FACTS.org in 7th or 8th grade in order to be promoted to 9th grade. • Must be an approved course from list (has a different course number) • All students must take the course and complete an ePEP

  8. FACTS.org ePEP • electronic Personal Education Planner • Provides requirements based on student’s graduation plan and goals • Standard Diploma • Career Prep • College Prep • College & Career Prep • Standard • Special Diploma • Courses and MAIs are school-specific • Counselors have access to Student Activity System to view a school roster and see ePEP activity

  9. Reporting Responsibilities • Districts are the system of record in certifying that students have met graduation requirements. • Districts are required to record on each student’s transcript the declared major area(s) of interest and courses taken to satisfy the graduation requirement each term.

  10. Options for Capturing MAI District Solution ePEP Course File Reconciliation File

  11. ePEP Course File • COMPLETE download of student ePEP • Demographic indentifying information • Graduation Plan • Career Cluster • Major Area of Interest • Courses Selected • Grades 7-12 • Available at NWRDC, monthly basis • Can be used for more than MAIs

  12. Reconciliation File • COMPARISON of ePEP Course File with student transcripts • Attaches MAI code to a course (however, the MAI must have been included in the ePEP Course File or previously entered on a student’s transcript) • Grades 9-10 • Available at NWRDC, three times a year (latest version created on 6/9/08) • MAI specific

  13. Re-Cap Differences

  14. Reporting Status Palm Beach (9 students), Hernando (2 students), and Bay (1 student).

  15. FACTS.org Student Activity System • Displays a school roster and associated student activity • Name, Last 5 digits of FSIN, Grade Level • High School selected • Login ID • Date ePEP created, date last updated • Total credits planned • Total MAI credits planned • Diploma type, graduation plan, career cluster, and MAI • Date of last transcript received

  16. Coming Enhancements • In the Student Activity System- • Lock/freeze student planners • Disable student accounts • Add students to roster • Abbreviated terms • In the ePEP- • Dual enrollments filtered by local service provider

  17. FACTS.org is NOT able to provide a download or print version of the Student Activity System, so the NWRDC ePEP Course File is the only option for now.

  18. Questions • How is your district handling MAI reporting? • Do you have any questions for us?
