What is IBI Experience With IWS? • We have implemented 4 IWS sites using Informatica and DataStage • We developed templates in both DataStage and Powercenter to load IWS • We have built a third mechanism for loading IWS • SeETL for IWS • Few people know as much about loading IWS as we do • No-one else has built re-usable templates or products to load IWS

  4. What Are the IWS ETL Issues? • IWS is a much more sophisticated model than is normally developed ‘in-house’ • There are many more dimension tables • There are many more fact tables with many more keys • As a result, the ETL is also more sophisticated

What Has Been Done in the Past? • The IWS customer has: • Bought an ETL Tool from one of the vendors • Mostly DataStage and Informatica • Some have used Microsoft DTS or Oracle Warehouse Builder • Decided to use cobol or stored procedures (PL/SQL) • The customer then developed the ETL for the IWS as a ‘one off’ project within the company • There have been no reusable ETL components

  16. Why Would I Buy SeETL for IWS? • I am doing my IWS project on a tight budget and I don’t have the money to buy an ETL tool right now. • We plan to run IWS on SQL Server 2000. We have decided to use a combination of C/C++ and DTS to load IWS. We are looking for some utilities that help us load IWS in this environment. • We plan to run IWS on Oracle. We have decided to use a combination of PL/SQL, C/C++ and OWB to load IWS. We are looking for some utilities that will help us load IWS in this environment. • We have bought IWS but we would like to delay purchase of an ETL tool until such time as we feel we really need it and can justify it.

  17. Why Would I Buy SeETL for IWS? • We have implemented IWS. We use an ETL tool. We are adding/changing tables on a regular basis. It takes a long time to add the new columns in the ETL tool we have. We are looking around at what tools might be available to help us customise IWS with less cost than our ETL tool. • We have implemented IWS. We did not use an ETL tool. When we make changes we find that the time and effort to change the ETL scripts is quite high.
