  3. History, present and the future of textile industry internationally • 1. History 1)Upper cave man had been making cloth with animal skin using needle made of bone since 50 thousands ago. Images of ancient life

  4. 2)kudzu fiber has come into human’s life five or six thousands years ago.

  5. 3)Good use had been made of silk during the Neolithic times approximately 4000 years ago Silkworm and cocoon

  6. 4)Fabrics made of ramie came into popularity in Shang, Zhou dynasties in China.

  7. 5)A gown, weighted 40 grams, produced 2100 years ago, was unearthed from Tomb Number 1 at Mawangdui.

  8. 6)Hand loom appeared in China in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period

  9. 7)The Silk Road, created more than 2000 years ago, played an important role in the communication between the west and east

  10. 8)In the Tang dynasty textile industry had fully developed ,especially for silk.

  11. 9)The prosperity of textile in U.K. 200 years ago: water power, steam engine boiler, electric power, Industry Revolution etc.

  17. 2, The importance of fabric design 1. Features: • Textiles are commodities which follow fashion. Fashion is constantly changing, so new products are required. Therefore, R & D of new varieties is necessary for satisfying various new requirements. • Not only knowledge but also intellect are necessary for designers. One should master science and technology, also, makes oneself good at practice.

  18. 1)A creative work intellectually; 2)A futurology in the aspect of time; 3)Based on textile science and others related; 4)A completed system in the aspect of management including investigation, study, development, productivity and selling. A qualified designer is expected to be versatile with technology.

  19. 2. Importance to enterprises 1)Designing is a fundamental work, and design document is a law in a factory. Staffs, finance, equipment, productivity, supply and selling are all following the product. 2)The key factor determining failure or success The product is not the issues of a department but the whole enterprise. There is a saying “a product can bring a dying company to life”.

  20. 3)A designer has more opportunities for promotion • Since the designer must be qualified as a manager do, he or she has more chances to be promoted.

Design work and health • Design work is a creative work: psychologically, people prefer creative work than the repeated one, since this job is always exciting us. • Design work is artistic in some way, and the artist usually have a longer life. • Design work is usually carried out in a nice place: market research and study, conference , inspecting the production are all interesting and fun.

  23. 4. The aim of this subject and advised teaching plan • Aim : • Familiar with the woven structure and be able to analyze the parameters of fabric; • Be capable to design fabric and select the parameters properly; • Get knowledge from other language.
