  5. IA Research Shortfalls Identified for the 2005 QDR • Trusting the Edge • Security Management Infrastructure • Secure mobility for future GIG warfighter networks • Assured Information Sharing • Situational Awareness and Response/Enterprise Health S&T success in these five areas will largely determine how much of the net-centric vision can truly be realized in the GIG.

  6. Research Budget FY05 • FY05 Total Budget: $154M • $31M Basic Research • $25M Congressional Earmarks • Focus Areas • Basic Research • Foundational mathematics and information assurance research • Information Assurance • Develop the technology to ensure mission critical information is available, secure, and has integrity • Wireless Security • Protect information and information systems on the tactical battlefield as well as sustaining base infrastructure. A key piece of the enterprise is the wireless segment and it must exhibit the same functional and IS attributes as wired networks • Computer Network Operations • Ensure the mission critical infrastructure is available and secure via defensive and/or offensive means • Security Management • Integrate knowledge base technology, security visualization, data fusion and forensics, sensor management, mission security assessment to achieve enhanced security management

  8. CII’s goal is to connect vendors with potential customers in a transparent fashion

  9. The CII pilot has achieved significant milestones to date, including … …consistently increasing user base since inception …discovering new IA products necessary to fulfill current DoD IA goals and requirements • Responded to 100% of OSD requests within 24-72 hours DoD Community Referrals • CII’s database contains over 125 vendors, 70 of which offer products specifically designated by the NSA Initial Capabilities Document as products necessary to support core Global Information Grid (GIG) IA operational capability areas. …exceeding quality and service targets …profiling over 125 vendors EXAMPLES
