  4. Law17.2 a – Joining a maul head and shoulders must be no lower than hips is back in. • Law 17.5 - Pulling down the maul and Law 17.6 – Consequential end to maul. • Law 19.8 a +b (was 19.7) – Numbers in a Line out. (Note Part of this law ELV is being kept more later).

  6. Law 6 pp 46 – Match Official Assistant Referees. New Section 6B • Law 19.1 pp 110 + 111 – Kick to touch gaining ground from inside 22. • Law 19.2 e + f pp 115 - Quick throw in can go towards the players in goal. • Law 19.8 (was19.7) pp 119 - Addition of I & j receiver and hooker position at line out • Law 19.10 (was 19.9) - pp122 + 3 Lifters grip and pre gripping

  7. Law 20.11b pp 140 - This is an old ELV now law and deals with position and who feeds a scrum following a 90o turn. • Law20.12 d,e,g,h pp142 - Offside at the scrum, No.9 and non participants • Law 22.12 pp157 - Ball against corner flag no longer touch in goal.

  8. Other significant Law Changes

Law 3.13 pp 34 - New paragraphs f,g,h on uncontested scrums which put the onus on the referee to report to the match organisers. • Law 10.4e pp 61 - A dangerous tackle is always dangerous above the shoulders even when it starts below. • New Law 10i pp 61 - Spear tackle of a player in the air. • New Law 14.2d pp 85 - A player on the ground may not tackle an opponent

New Law 15.6c pp 91 - Picking up the ball by players opposed to the ball carrier involved in the tackle but on their feet. • New Law 17.4f,g pp103 - Clarifies what happens when the non ball carrying side leave the maul. • New Law 22.9 a,b,c,d,e pp 156-7 -Clarifies a player standing in goal and picking up the ball.

  11. Minor Alterations

Law 3.4 pp 30 - Limits the number of replacements for all matches to 7. • Law 5.2 pp 38 – Half time cannot exceed 15 minutes in any match below international. • Law 15.4 c pp 87 - When the tackler gets up to play the ball he can do from any direction. • Law 16.3f pp 96 - Rucking a player on the ground must never be intentional.

Law 17 Maul Definition pp 99 – inserts the word “when it begins” after minumim of 3 players. • Law 19.15 pp127 – Line out states “There are four options available to the player throwing in”. • Law 20.3 pp 134 - In the Scrum binding by other than front row must be in place before the engage is called.

Continue the ones from last season: - • The tackle laws on releasing the ball and the tackler rolling away (Note a nuber of coaches thought these were ELVs, which might create some interest at the start of the season) • Feeding the scrum A new addition: - The spear tackle, you have received the judgement on this one.
