Prepositions. IN = dentro, em, no, na. After cities, states, countries and continents . Ex.: I live in Brazil. We stopped in/at Curitiba on the way to SP. To indicate de position DENTRO. Ex.: in the drawer. Period of the day. Ex.: In the morning.

  2. IN = dentro, em, no, na • After cities, states, countries and continents. Ex.: I live in Brazil. • We stoppedin/atCuritiba on the way to SP. • To indicate de position DENTRO. Ex.: in the drawer. • Period of the day. Ex.: In the morning. • Months without days. Ex.: in September. • Months with years. Ex.: in May, 1987.

  3. Seasons. Ex.: In (the) Summer! • Years. Ex.: In 1986. • Centuries. Ex.: In the nineteenth century. • In front of streets. Ex.: She is in Nereu Ramos street. (British English) • They’ll arrive in a few minutes/hours/ week/moths. (time that will take) • I’m in the corner. (no canto) • In front of “the weekend”. Ex.: I travel in the weekend.   4. ON = sobre, em, no (a) • To indicate de position EM CIMA. Ex.: The papers are on the desk. • In certain places/words:on the island, farm, beach, the screen, TV, the train, ship, plane, ground, second floor, bus, the telephone, the radio. • In front of streets. Ex.: I live on João Dreschler street. (American English) • In front of “the weekend”. Ex.: I work on the weekend. (American English)

  5. Days of the week. Ex.: on Saturday. • Months + Day. Ex.: My birthday is on May 7th. • Months + Day + Year. Ex.: on January 10th 1897. • Special Days. Ex.: on Easter Sunday. • Period of days with adjectives. Ex.: on a cloudy night. • Outras combinações possíveis p. 112.

  6. AT = junto a, em, no, na, à • To certain places. Ex.: at the airport, the door, the chalkboard, Mary’s house, home. • I’mat/onthe corner. (na esquina) • Address with number. Ex.: He works at 450 Main street. • To schedules. Ex.: at 3 pm. • Meals. Ex.: At dinner. • With feasts. Ex.: At Christmas.

  7. In the expressions:at night, present, the moment, the same time. • Ability, price and age. Ex.: I’m good at Portuguese. She bought this car at a good price. At the age of 16 she just thought about her car. • Outras combinações possíveis p. 112.

  8. Some Situations • He is at the club. (jogando) He is in the club. (dentro do prédio) • She is at the theater. (Assistindo a uma peça) She is in the theater. (dentro do prédio) • I woke up in the night. (durante a noite) I can’t sleep at night. (à noite) • I arrived in time to see the show. (em tempo) The bus left on time. (na hora certa)

  9. With go, come, get and arrive we don’t use any preposition. Ex.: I’m going home. • INTO = para dentro de Ex.: The thief is going into the jail.
