  2. Overview Phoenix is building a multi-use trail along the Grand Canal from Glendale to Tempe Design underway East Segment (I-17 and Tempe) Construction (Phase I) begins early 2017 Construction (Phase II) begins early 2018 This presentation will cover the project and some of the opportunities

Washington w/o 44th St to SR-202 (CD8) Alternate 2 – Assumes Rail Crossing Denied Washington Street SR-202 Signal Modification: 48th St and Washington New bike lanes on 48th St Washington to Grand Canal 44th Street 48th Street New RRFB: 48th St south of Washington Bike lanes cross tracks at existing crossing North Bank Trail SR-143 Phase II - TIGER

  19. SR-202 to Tempe (CD8) Phoenix Tempe SR-202 Priest Drive North Bank Trail Future Tempe Railroad crossing project Trail Terminates at Tempe border. Coordination will be required with Tempe on signing Phase II - TIGER

Project Details: Trail Length 10.6 miles District 4 5.6 miles District 8 5.0 miles Signal Modifications 5 Phase I 1 Phase II 4 New HAWK Signals 10 Phase I 2 Phase II 8 New RRFB Crossings 3 Phase I 2 Phase II 1 New High Visibility Crossings 1 New Bridges (Phase II) 2 Anticipated Dates: Meetings: Public Meeting – Tentative June 14,15 or 16, 2016 Phase I: Complete Construction Documents Fall 2016 Anticipated Start of Construction Spring 2017 Phase II: Final design submission August 2017 Anticipated Start of Construction February 2018

Opportunities • High Levels of Public Support • Desire to improve utility & perceived safety of canal banks • Neighborhood Connections • Nine connections included in Phase I • Potential future projects include: • Phoenix Indian Medical Center Fitness Trail at 14th Street & Glenrosa Ave • Pocket park at 31st St & McDowell Road • Safe Routes to School project between Creighton Elementary School and Oak St • Mountain Park Health Center connection • Pueblo Grande Museum connection Constraints Central Avenue Signal Modifications Requires modification to Light Rail guide-way Union Pacific Railroad Crossing New crossing permit needed for tracks at Pueblo Grande Museum Requires closing two existing crossings for one new crossing permit Environmental Considerations Many archeological & historic sites located along canal requiring archeological monitoring and recovery plans.
