  2. Drakensberg Travel Guide • The impressive bulk of the mountains the Zulus called Ukahlamba - the barrier of spears - and the Voortrekkers called the Drakensberg - the dragon mountain - is an impressive rampart of sandstone and basalt that separates the well watered Indian Ocean coast from the dryer, harsher interior. Most of the escarpment falls under the Ukahlamba-Drakensberg National Park. This beautiful montane grassland is bright green in summer after the rains and fades to a delicate blonde, often with snowy highlights, in winter.  It's a great hiking destination with a range of trails from walks of an hour or two to long epics such as the Drakensberg Traverse, which takes about three to four weeks.

  3. Tokai Forest mountain biking • Tokai Forest, a lush expanse of green in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, offers mountain bike enthusiasts some of the best cycling routes imaginable. Within 20 minutes drive of the city centre, this forest is just as accessible as is it beautiful. • If you ask any off-road cyclist in the Western Cape where the best mountain biking routes are, Tokai Forest is sure to be included in their answer. There are a number of clearly marked cycling trails to choose from, ensuring that there are options for both novice and expert cyclists.

  4. Resort accommodation • Resort accommodation in South Africa is plentiful; there are literally hundreds of holiday resorts spread across the length and breadth of the country, each offering their own unique experience. • Unlike in other countries where resorts are often characterized by large sprawling estates featuring every activity under the sun, South African holiday resorts tend to be smaller and vary greatly in their offerings. It’s not uncommon to find a simple caravan and camping resort with only a swimming pool a stone’s throw away from a massive up market resort with all the trimmings.

  5. Home to 3 of Africa Best Airports • South Africa's three major international airports, OR Tambo International, Cape Town International and King Shaka International, scored a treble at the 2011 Skytrax World Airport Awards, being named the top three airports in Africa.
