Executive Summary Business Challenges: • Agencies responsible for mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters need the ability to collaborate and share information during an emergency response. • Lack of effective information sharing can degrade a common operating picture (COP) which can lead to a fragmented overall emergency response. Microsoft Vision & Initiatives in Rural Growth • SBU group on Rural Strategy in place • Headed by Chairman • Microsoft is supporting a program of India's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to establish 50,000 rural kiosks, by offering a range of affordable products, services, consultancy, training and support. • The company has also teamed with Indian PC vendors, financial institutions and Internet service providers to deliver number of initiatives, viz • "broadband and PC package" on monthly installments to customers, particularly first time users of PCs – VSNL / BSNL / HCL • Tied-up with Intel-Rural PC Initiative. • Financing package for Kiosks Operators in tie-up with Financial Institutions • Microsoft is making its education content available under this program.

Microsoft Vision & Initiatives on Rural Growth…. • Rural Innovation Fund launched • Microsoft India and Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) have launched a rural innovation fund, an initiative the organizations hope would help in spreading the benefits of information technology in rural areas. • The fund would begin with a seed capital of $200,000 and finance IT projects that offer localised applications and solutions for rural communities. • Rural HUB Initiatives MOU with GOI E-Governance Programs of Panchayati Raj • To set up rural business hubs in the country. • Rural hubs would help farmers to sell their produce at the best possible prices. • Under the government's e-Governance initiative, rural areas would also be connected. Better electricity supply would be ensured so that the e-Governance program takes off in rural areas.
