DEFINIZIONE il melanocita deriva dalla cresta neurale (melanoblasti migrati nello strato basale dell’epidermide durante il periodo embrionario) il melanoma puň insorgere da un singolo melanocita basale o da melanociti organizzati in nevi (raramente in sedi viscerali) Incidenza del melanoma: 7 casi per 100.000 abitanti

EPIDEMIOLOGIA l’incidenza č rapidamente aumentata negli ultimi 10 aa (3-8% di incremento annuo nel mondo) dal 1935 ad oggi č passata da 1/1500 a 1/75 in USA rappresenta il 3% di tutti i tumori diagnosticati (piů della leucemia e del carcinoma gastrico) la mortalitŕ č aumentata del 32,7% dal 1973 al 1995 (meno rapidamente rispetto all’incidenza) la sopravvivenza globale a 5 anni č aumentata (88,2% nel 1994 contro il 67% nel 1975)
