  2. What Is Identity Theft? • someone who wrongfully obtains and uses another person’s personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception

  3. What do These Thefts Do? • Many people have reported that unauthorized persons have taken funds out of their bank or financial accounts. • In the worst case, people have taken over others identities altogether, running up vast debts and committing crimes while using the victims’ names.

  4. How do These Thefts Do It? • Shoulder surfing • Dumpster diving • Skimming • Phishing • Changing Your address, Old fashioned stealing • Pretexing

  5. What Can You do To Stop It? • Just Remember “SCAM”. • S be stingy • C check • A ask • M maintain

  6. Types Of Identity Theft • As you see, credit cards are used most for fraud.

  7. Banking Fraud • When the Bank is involved checking fraud is dominant

  8. What To Do If You think You Are A Victim • Act immediately to minimize damage. • Cancel credit cards • Cancel accounts with the Bank

  9. What Else Do They Do With Your Identity? • Employment • Social Security • Tax Returns • Medical • Securities and Investments • Bankruptcy Fraud • Illegal Immigration, Government Documents

  10. Never Give Out Information On The Phone • As you see, people have tricky ways to get your identity
