Translation and Interpretation Services Mission: To facilitate high-quality communication in the two official languages, English and Spanish, through translation and interpretation services in competitive and non-competitive events during the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

Tips – General Interpretation • Arrive early! • Come prepared – water, pen and pencil, parallel texts and glossaries • Introduce yourself to speakers • Do not interpret until you fully understand message • Ask for repetition and clarification as many times as needed • Assume the event is being recorded or aired live

  15. Tips – Press Conference • Get copy of official results (from OVR) • Test the microphone • Identify speakers and introduce yourself • Keep eye contact with speaker while interpreting • You may need to interrupt the speaker! • Don’t rush, breathe!

  16. Tips – Interviews • Get copy of official results (from OVR) • Come prepared – water, pen and pencil, parallel texts and glossaries • Understand that the setting might be very noisy (Mixed Zone)
