  1. Skeye The post report

  2. Overview • Original Plan • Results • Possible Reasons for results • Resolutions for Failures from Results

  3. Original Plans • Our original plan of our payload Skeye, was to record flight data and video the mission from take off to the point of landing. • We wanted to do this in order to develop a better understanding of how the project works and to use this data to better enable the project to be better for future missions.

  4. Results • Despite our success with insuring that the payload works correctly, Problems arose to result in a Failure in the mission. • After analyzing our project, we have concluded that our project was a failure resulting in a power failure, which corrupts the data resulting in a file failure.

  5. Possible reasons for issues • Fuse Blowout • Condensation • Heavy impact damage

  6. Our methods to resolve a Fuse Blowout • To resolve the issue of a fuse Blow out we first made hypothesis that it could have result due to too much power due ot some sort of short. • We tested this to see if it was a result by running the payload at full power for 60 minutes. It worked fine with no issues. So we concluded that the failure was not due to an increase in voltage to cause a fuse blowout

  7. Methods to resolve Condensation • We also came up with an idea that condensation could have been the problem due to the interference of water on the battery causing the short circuit. • We tested this by setting up the payload to run with sever small pieces of ice on the battery pack to see if condensation could form on the battery pack. After we removed the ice the camera shut off, but this did not result in file corruption so we cannot conclude that this is the result

  8. Methods to resolve impact damage • Our last idea for an issue was impact damage • We tested this by setting a mock crash. This resulted in the camera still working just like originally so we have to cancel out the idea that the camera failed due to heavy inpact

  9. Lessons learned • We learned that a failure could have resulted in many different ways. • There are several ways to resolve these; for example, to resolve the issue of condensation, bigger silicon packs could have been used. • A stronger wire and electrical system could also have solved the problems with short circuiting.

  10. Conclusion • In conclusion, after all the hard work and testing, our payload for the ACES project was a failure. We know that the failure resulted due to a power failure in the connection between the battery and the circuit board, yet we don’t know the exact reason it failed. We hope that in the future further experimenting can resolve this issue.
