  1. AMAZING GRACE

  2. I. GRACE ABUSED

  3. Saved By Grace Alone: If salvation was by grace alone, then everyone would be saved.  (Hebrews 2:9)  Each person must appropriate the abundant grace God has made available.  God’s grace opened up the waters of the Red Sea, but the Israelites had to walk to the other side.

  4. God’s grace provided an ark for the saving of Noah and his family, but Noah had to build the ark and then they had to enter it when the floods came.  Human response (obedience) is necessary to appropriate God’s grace.  (Hebrews 5:9)

  5. Free Gift: Rom. 5:15, 16, “But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.”

  6. God’s grace for Christ wasn’t free. It cost Him His life! That is the point Paul makes in the book of Romans.

  7. Unmerited Favor: Is a sinner commanded to do anything to receive God’s grace? This is the teaching in today's accepted Christianity that there is nothing a sinner must do, no action or change, no behavior change. • Just because it is termed “unmerited” does not eliminate faith or works.

  8. Receiving That Grace Demands Change • Jer. 26:3, “If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.”

  9. II. GRACE ATTAINED

  10. 1. Jesus Paid the Price • 1 Cor. 6:20, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”

  11. 2. Grace Is Offered To All • Heb. 2:9, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”

  12. 3. Grace Is Denied By Most • Matthew 7:14, “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” • Matt. 20:16, “So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.” • It is man that refuses to seek His grace!

  13. III. GRACE CONDITIONS

  14. 1. The Reception of Grace Involves Direction • Denial:Mark 8:34, “And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”

  15. Deliverance: Gal. 1:4, “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.”

  16. Deliberate Movement: The reception of grace is based upon your deliberate movement toward that grace. The prodigal son returned home!

  17. 2. The Reception of Grace Involves Acceptance • Jn. 8:24, “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not thatIamhe, ye shall die in your sins.”

  18. One Must Accept the Kingdom & Her Principles • Heb. 12:28, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”

  19. One Must Accept the King & His Commandments • Rev. 19:16, “And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.” • Jn. 15:14, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

  20. 3. The Reception of Christ Involves Commitment • Matthew 19:29, “And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.”

  21. Committed to the Commission • Matt. 28:19, “Goye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”

  22. Committed to the Conditions • 1 Cor. 1:23, “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness.” • The “if” statements of the New Testament are staggering:

  23. Matt. 19:21, “Jesus said unto him, Ifthou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.” • Jn. 13:8, “Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.”

  24. Church at Sardis: Rev. 3:3, “Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.”

  25. God made salvation conditional! • God desires to shower me with His grace, but I must shower Him with complete Allegiance!
