Grade 5B March News: Division, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and More!

  1. Mrs. Sonya Dodginghorse 5B March News 2018 Teacher Contact sdhorse@tsuutinaeducation.com, 403-992-7742 • Math – Division , Long Division • Reading– We are currently reading the Novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and will complete it by March 8th. We will be starting the Read 180 program March 12th • Writing –Grammar, Students have been doing allot of writing this month! They are doing awesome!Science – We will begin Electricity and Magnetism. • Social Studies – Ms. Crowchild will be teaching the students about the Canadian Shield. • Health – Meditation, Mindfulness, Positive and Negative Attention. Bullying awareness. We are also creating a video called The Juice Box Bully. • Gym – Floor Hockey Homework Mondays Homework is sent home each Monday, and it is due on Friday. *The grade 5 B Mentorship program consists of incentive field trips based on Academics, Attendance, and Attitude. We will also have quest speakers whom are community role models to come in and speak to our class each month. WEAR PINK DAY – JUICE BOX BULLY On February 28th the Tsuut’ina Middle School Staff and Students, and the TTN Fire Department celebrated National Wear Pink Day.  Our Grade 5B class hosted a wonderful assembly that featured their film the Juice Box Bully.  Secondly, Councilor LeeRoyMeguinis addressed the middle school with a motivational speech about positive attitudes.  Thirdly, the entire middle school gathered in the gym for the Be Brave Prize Bingo Game, which included many door prize draws!  Tyler Kasekeo was a big door prize winner. He took home Beats by Dre Headphones!  Lastly, the Wellness Empowerment program presented to the grade 5 & 6 classes about the meaning of Pink Shirt Day.  The students had a wonderful day learning about kindness in creating a safe and caring school.  

  3. BE BRAVE HITMEN GAME On February 27th we participated in the Calgary Hitmen and Telus partnership “Be Brave”. The Grade 5b and Grade 6  classes were– armed with pink shirts, and headed to the Saddledome to watch the Calgary Hitmen take on the Swift Current Broncos!  Students had the opportunity not only to watch a great hockey game, but also hear inspiring words from professional athletes who survived bullying, and stressed the importance to be kind to others, and to be kind to yourself.  Tsuut’ina middle school is committed to creating a caring, inclusive community, and participating in great events like these strengthens our resolve to end bullying. GRADE 4 VISIT On Monday February 26, Mrs. Onespot’s grade 4 class from Chiila Elementary visited our grade 5B class.  The grade 5’s presented them with an anti-bullying presentation about The Juice Box Bully.  Afterwards, the grade 4’s went on a tour of our Middle School.  We had lunch, and wrapped up our morning with a gym class together.  Both classes had a lot of fun together!  Nakiska Ski Trip 10 of our Grade 5 Students took part in the Annual Middle School Ski Trip. It was allot of fun!

  5. Telus Spark On Feb.  22 our grade 5 classes explored the Telus Spark Science Center.  Our awesome students were introduced to the circuits and electricity workshop.  We will be learning all about it in our next Science Unit.

  7. Healthy Living Workshop On Feb. 26 our very own community role model Tressa Lusty shared her journey with our middle school girls of how she overcome bullying, and insecurities about her body image.  She left the girls with an important message:  Respect yourself, and be proud of who you are, and where you come from. On Feb. 26 Layne Cardinal shared his journey of self respect to our middle school boys.
