  1. Excerpt from letter written in BCIS to Mrs. Knight I was excited when I learned that I had been assigned to North Austin Medical Center. Though I am most interested in neurology, I was placed in physical therapy. My activities included shadowing therapists as they went to patient rooms for cardiac therapy, needs analysis or helping patients move around after surgery. In the actual physical therapy department I observed therapists working with patients just recovering from injuries to neck, back and joints. We were given a problem to research. Therapists frequently have to wait for an additional oxygen tank for patients on oxygen. How could the wait be reduced? We interviewed employees from different departments and made recommendations at the end of the week. My COOL Week experience was very educational as well as exciting. For me, it was definitely worth it! --Candice

  2. Excerpt from letter written in BCIS to Mrs. Knight For COOL Week I went to a civil engineering business called PBS&J. My group’s problem was to develop a 164-acre of land. We had certain restrictions to work around and requirements we must develop on the land. The land was near a 100-year flood plain, which meant we couldn’t develop in that part of the land. We had to make 30% of the land dedicated to commercial development and the remaining area to a residential area. We developed the neighborhood using CAD. I thought the week was a great experience. It helped me realize what it was like to be a civil engineer. And I would recommend it to anyone who thinks they would like to do that type of work. --Courtney

  3. Excerpt from letter written in BCIS to Mrs. Knight During COOL Week, I went to Sunset Canyon Vet Clinic. I was able to work with many different vets and vet techs. I was allowed to help out with surgeries and treatments. I was able to go on farm calls and help out horses and cattle. During the week, I helped sonogram a llama and float a racehorse’s teeth. We also performed routine neuters and spays. I was also able to help remove a two-and-a-half pound tumor off a cat. In the end I had a great time and learned more than I ever could in a school classroom in that same amount of time. I wish that this program was available to seniors also. -- Kim

  9. Where are the instruments located that we use? • The SlimPulse - located behind the bit • The SlimPulse opens and closes to regulate pressure in the back-flow of the mud. • The SPT(signal pressure transducer - located in the gooseneck • The SPT uses the pizeo-electric crystal to take measurements of the pressure fluctuations that are caused by the SlimPulse.

  10. Evaluating Software-TruVu Bridge • We evaluated the TruVu Pro Bridge and how it processes the data it receives. This software is what links the HSPM to the 3rd party software(TruVu Pro)

  11. Evaluating Software-TruVu Pro • We evaluated the TruVu Pro and learned how to read and setup the data.

  12. Error Detection • We found several bugs within the TruVu Bridge and TruVu Pro programs that were useful to the company. • We presented these errors to our managers, in which they modified. • We also presented possible solutions to these errors. • Errors are being looked over at this moment

  13. What we learned • We learned a lot about the process of drilling (not just the filtration system) so we could be more familiarized with the software we evaluated. • We learned how a normal day on the job would be like at Schlumberger. • We learned tips on how to sell our selves in interviews and present a professional resume. • We also learned how to evaluate software using manuals and simulated data.
