  1. Text to MP3 Conversion: The Written Word in a New Medium

  2. We’ve all heard those stories about New Year’s resolutions that involve personal fitness. It is not uncommon at all for a person to suddenly decide come January 1 that they will be more active in the coming year and finally shed those extra pounds that they have been hanging onto for far too long.

  3. I can say unashamedly that I was one of those people this year. I got myself a gym membership and for the last 5 days I have dutifully driven to the gym, hopped on the treadmill and gotten to work.

  4. I can’t say that I’ve been into this fitness thing for too long at all, and I’m definitely still out of shape. You might think that I might be getting to the point where I’m starting to get discouraged and thinking about quitting on my fitness goals.

  5. Proudly, I can say that that’s not the case. And no, I’m not some super human being with a will of steel. My secret, in all honesty is my love for literature and my vast e-book collection.

  6. “But wait,” you might say “how do you manage to read a book while you’re on the treadmill? You must be going pretty slow!” While I admit, I may be going at a rather lethargic pace, it sure seems pretty fast to me!

  7. But to answer your question, no I’m not reading. I’ve simply converted my e-books to MP3 files using some great software I found at convert-it.org.

  8. Using the free trial of their text to MP3 conversion software, I have been able to take text files that I had previously stored on my PC and e-reader and ran them through this easy to use program.

  9. It’s fairly intuitive. The setup uses a wizard style interface to help me select the files I would like to convert, the destination and the final file format.

  10. By using professional SAPI speech engines, the speech is natural and comparable to any other text to speech software available on the market. I was very impressed with the results, especially with the low price of the software.

  11. I was even able to adjust what before seemed like small details—such as the pitch of the voice and reading speed—but now I would never again listen to an audio book where I did not have control over how the reader’s voice sounded.

  12. As another plus, the text to MP3 converter also supports tags for my new audio files so that I can note the title of the book, the author and the series that a particular volume may be a part of. These tags easily followed the files when I imported them into the program that organizes my digital library. Again, very impressed and satisfied.

  13. While others may be turning back on their resolutions soon, you can expect to see me on the treadmill well into the year, burning time and calories while listening to my favorite e-books being read to me.
