  5. Transport Performance (2002) total transport volume of foreign trade: 800 million tons • water: 90% road:6.6% • rail: 3.2% air: 0.2%

  6. Transport of Foreign Trade in Xinjiang (2003) • total transport volume of foreign trade: 8.5 million tons • 88% by rail

  7. Transit Transport in Xinjiang (2003) • 94582 tons transit cargoes • 2270 containers and 94 wagons • mostly carried by rail

  8. Transit Cargo • Textiles, auto parts, machinery, house- holding appliance, food, etc

  9. Main Routes for Transit Transport • From Japan, Korea, USA, etc. • via Chinese seaports: Lianyungang, Qingdao, Tianjin, and • land posts in the west: Alashankou, Horgos, Turugart, Irkeshtan • to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, etc.

  10. Land Posts and International Highway Transport Routes in Xinjiang • 14 land posts with neighboring central Asian countries: • 7 with Kazakhstan, 2 with Kyrgyzstan • 1 with Pakistan, 4 with Mongolia • 26 highway routes for cargo transport • 27 highway routes for passenger transport

  11. Investment in Highway Transport Infrastructure in Xinjiang • 80 million USD in rehabilitation of 1754km highways connecting land posts • 1.5 billion USD in construction of two truck routes: Urumqi-kashi and Urumqi-Yining expressway

  12. Cooperation with Central Asian Countries in Transport Infrastructure Construction • 60 million RMB aid to rehabilitate the road connecting China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in Kyrgyzstan • further cooperation under discussion

  14. AHN in China (1) • 14 routes as the first package in 2002 • 10 routes to join at a later stage • total length: 26,000 km

  15. AHN in China (2) • Linking AH1, AH2, AH3, AH4, AH5, AH42, AH61, AH64, AH72, etc • linking seaports Tianjin, Lianyungang, Shanghai, etc.

  16. Highway Connecting CACs (1) Lianyungang - Urumqi - Horgos - (Kazakhstan) • linking AH5 • 4300 km • passing through a dozen of big cities in China • expressway in most part

  17. Highway Connecting CACs (2) Urumqi - Kashi - Hongqiraf - (Pakistan) • linking AH4 • 1650 km • expressway and class 3 above
