  1. Hybrid Resume Format: Why is it the Best Choosing the right resume format to highlight your skills and competencies plays a major role in the application process. It is important to know which one works for you. A resume is much like an advertisement, and just like an ad, a resume has different formats. Several factors determine the type of structure you use. It can depend on the job you are applying for or what the employers in that industry prefer to see. The general function of a resume is to show the hiring manager or employer your skills and work history. All resume formats allow you to do that but in different ways. There are four main types of Resume formats; • Chronological resume • Functional resume • Combination resume • Targeted resume The chronological resume is the most popular format used by job seekers because many employers prefer it. However, the combination or hybrid resume has recently been gaining popularity. The hybrid resume is a format that combines the chronological and functional resume. The functional resume mainly focuses on your skills and achievements, while the chronological resume showcases your work history first. Many employers don’t care for the

Modern job seekers combine the two because of the following reasons; • The combination format works for both old and new generation employers • Employers see the most valuable information at the top • Highlights both your skills and work experience • Diminishes employment gaps without hiding them As mentioned earlier, different types of resumes work on different occasions. That said, you should use a hybrid resume if; 1.You are new in the job market It takes a few years to gain relevant work experience. You might be unable to do that if you use the chronological resume in your job applications straight out of campus. You might not have a lot of work experience as a graduate, but you have some relevant skills in your profession. A combination resume is best for an entry-level job seeker because you can highlight any skills gained outside of your career that is relevant. 2.You are switching careers When you’re changing careers, your work experience might be irrelevant to the position you are applying for. But, with a hybrid resume, you can highlight your transferrable skills that apply to your target position. Additionally, you will only list the work experience relevant to the job you are applying for. Remember, in a combination resume; your qualifications are the most important compared to your work history. 3.You are an expert A combination resume can be a strategic option for someone who is accomplished in their career. Some experts might see fit to list their awards and honors or recognitions from other industry experts as their skills. Some employers might find this impressive and not focus too much on employment history. Even if they do, they can trust this applicant because of their accomplishments. According to some experts, employers will first look at the qualifications and job titles that stand out in your resume before they decide to read it thoroughly. Therefore it is essential to choose the best way to relay that information to a hiring manager.
