  1. Sorting of the MKD generators • Status ‘today’ • 14 Generators have been calibrated • 3 rejected, need modification (generators 8, 14 and 21) • Critical parameter is the system rise time, which is outside the original specification of 2.8 μs • Rise time increased because trigger voltage needed to be adjusted for synchronisation • Gain by synchronisation (varying trigger voltage) is more important than loss in pulse rise time LBDS meeting, 20 June 2006

  2. Measured Rise Times Spec Base ourselves on measurements of magnetic field LBDS meeting, 20 June 2006

  3. LBDS meeting, 20 June 2006

  4. Sorting Strategy • Mix switch types for one beam • Obtain average system rise time • Done automatically by selecting on rise time at 7 TeV • Fast at 7 TeV also fast at any other energies • Westcode needs to compensate Dynex at 7 TeV (worst energy for Dynex) • 7 TeV is the most critical for the machine • Put fastest generator at position furthest away from the septum, longest lever arm • Start distributing 63 – 67 now • Avoids having a worst side if you have some ‘bad’ generators coming in the end • Skip roughly every other position on each side and fill in the gaps as generators are being tested • Expect no net gain by method of combining slow / fast generator with slow / fast magnet • To be confirmed simulation Gene? LBDS meeting, 20 June 2006

  5. Comparing with Magnet Calibration • Variation of rise time at 7 TeV • Generators vary by 125 ns so far • Magnets vary by about 40 ns • Spread in magnetic field strength at 7 TeV • Generators vary by about 0.5 % • Magnets vary by about 0.7 % • Results • Generators sorted on rise time • Also know it is a real physical effect coming from the switches, not measurement ‘accuracy’ • Is the most critical parameter of the system • Magnets sorted on field strength LBDS meeting, 20 June 2006

  6. Sorting of MKD Generators tested so far: • Not taking into account ‘rejected generators’ • Leaving slots for generators to be tested • ‘worst slot’ either side still available LBDS meeting, 20 June 2006
