  5. 2 Triple Science Student 3 Options Core English (x2) Maths Science (x3) R.S. 10 GCSEs = + PSHE Games

  6. ..… Language(s) Choices French Speak, read, write, listen in French. Make new friends; work in France or use French in your work here. We live in a globalised world and the ability to speak a second language is even more important than ever. It is a distinct advantage both in the workplace and when applying for the more competitive universities. Therefore we strongly recommend that you select a language within your options. Spanish Speak, read, write, listen in Spanish. Make new friends; work in Spain or use Spanish in your work here.

  7. …….Humanities Choices The Government has introduced the concept of an English Baccalaureate (EBacc) and recommends that most students should follow both a language and humanity subject as well as their ‘core’ subjects. History See how peoples’ lives have changed over time and how today’s problems have roots in the past. Learn to be critical of the news you see and hear, interpret events and learn about ‘spin’. Geography The study of the world in which we live. The hazards and threats to both people and the environment, natural and man made and the effectiveness of solutions to preserve the Earth for future generations.

  8. ..… Practical / Creative Choices Technical Award in Visual Communication. Students will develop the core skills to manufacture promotional and graphic based products and materials. Technical Award in Technology Materials Students will develop the core skills to make high-quality products using woods, metals and polymers (plastics). Technical Award in Fashion & Textiles Students will develop the core skills to manufacture fashion and textiles products and materials This is a vocational qualification and will be equivalent to one GCSE You may only choose one Technical Award subject

  9. ..… Practical / Creative Choices Food Technology (GCSE) Learn how to make good food healthy with interesting ingredients – quickly. Engineering (GCSE) Develop work related skills in Workshop Practice, Engineering Science, Manufacturing Technology and Maintenance.

  10. ……….Artistic Choices Art Turn your ideas into stunning Art in a variety of styles. Research artistic ideas and the work of other artists. Media Studies Produce your own videos, create web pages, and learn all about the media industry. Dance Perform and choreograph in different dance styles Learn about the history of dance. Music Perform and compose your own music. Learn to listen and enjoy music of all styles. Drama Perform your own plays; lighting; makeup. Visit the theatre and explore different performances. Photography You will create your own photography and develop an appreciation of the different genres, practitioners and their styles.

Computing / Business Studies / PE Choices Computer Science Problem solving, Programming, Managing data, Hardware and software, Communication & the internet As a science, this is also an EBacc subject Business Studies Learn about the world of business; different types of business organisations and the role of business in the country.

  12. ? Questions to think about • What subjects do you enjoy? • What are your strengths? • Do you have a career in mind? • Which Modern Foreign Language? • A practical/creative subject? • An artistic subject?

  13. Don’t….. • Choose subjects just because your friends are choosing them. • Choose a subject just because you get on well with your teacher. You might well have a different teacher at KS4. • Rush to complete your choices – think carefully and pick a subject for positive reasons after conducting research. • Worry if you can’t fit everything in. Some subjects can be picked up again in the Sixth Form. If in doubt, find out.

What to do next… • Think carefully about your choices and do some research – suggested websites are in your Options booklet - tomorrow • Be prepared for your Options Interview • Seek advice from specialist staff – Options evening is Thursday 9th February • The application form will be available at Parents’ evening on 16th March • Deadline – 23rd March
