  1. G.I.G.S.S. G.I. Grannies for Soldier Support What is GIGSS? G.I.Grannies for Soldier Support is a missional response to military support outreach. Our sole purpose is to fortify our Military service people while they are transitioning through the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Carson. We adopt Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Naval personnel, and those that are far from their grandmothers. We take personal care with the spouses and children. We write encouraging letters and notes to our Soldiers. We make sweaters and quilts; bake cupcakes, make dinner for our Soldier/children and listen to their hearts. We call our Soldiers and give them words of wisdom, encouragement and love. We go where they go, and march where they march. Grandmas across the United States can rally around our military men, women, and their families with three levels of participation and love as our Soldiers transition home. What is Our Vision Statement? GIGSS is a volunteer-led group registered with Fort Carson’s ACS program whose focus is providing aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and their families of the Warrior Transition Battalion, Fort Carson. What is Our Goal? Our current goal is to assemble 50 dedicated Grandmothers and Mentors who are willing to assist wounded Heroes and their families in a variety of unique and effective ways. The volunteer members of GIGSS work tirelessly to demonstrate active, “boots on the ground” care for the wounded warriors of the Iraq and Afghanistan war who are presently residing at Fort Carson. It has been our experience that the greatest support that we can provide to our Heroes are phone calls, personal written letters of encouragement, birthday cakes, words of encouragement, and Grandma’s hugs. We see firsthand our Soldiers’ need for love, attention, and encouragement. Without such encouragement, our Heroes will not heal as they could and their families cannot grow through the painful transition between a military career and civilian life.
