  1. Introduction to ElectroFlowTM System Dhaka, March 8, 2003 Mahmuduzzaman Khan Green Power Canada

  2. Introduction • Electrical energy has extensive use in our daily life • Most customers believe that utilities have caused the problem • Electrical pollution have significant effect on electrical motor and other equipment operation • Electenergy Technology Inc. (ETI) of USA has technology to deal with this electrical pollution

  3. Introduction

  4. What is ElectroFlowTM ? ElectroFlowTM is one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art energy saving and power conditioning system • It is an integrated system equipped with a microprocessor based Regulator, which monitors V, I, PF., and Hr. at the rate of 3840-15360 samples per second. • It is specifically custom engineered to optimize power quality and guaranteed savings • It is versatile solution and available for various load sizes and voltages • It is an integrated system consisting of LRC circuits • It is equipped with a unique alarm-driven Self Diagnostic Feature(SDF) • It eliminates the need to purchase a number of different devices

  5. Benefits of ElectroFlowTM • Reduces facility’s energy cost up to 34% • Reduces equipment downtime and maintenance • Increase plant’s reliability • Makes it possible to increase the total connected load of a circuit without over sizing the existing hardware • Protects company’s investment • Provides protection to sensitive equipment

  6. Standard Features ofElectroFlowTM • Voltage Improvement and Stability • Three Phase Balancing • Surge and Transient Protection • Broadband Harmonics Mitigation • Power Factor Improvement • Increase KVA Capacity

  7. Voltage Improvement and Stability Problems due to voltage variation- • Overheating of motors/Insulation breakdown • Imbalance current • Negative voltage sequence • Speed variation in motors • Reduce motor efficiency

  8. Voltage Improvement and Stability Problems due to voltage variation- • Motor bearing failure • Reduce production quality • Waste energy/High electric bill • Waste investment and operating capital • Call for oversized machinery • More difficult to provide adequate overload protection • Increase noise and vibration • Increases maintenance of equipment and machinery

  9. Voltage Improvement and Stability ElectroFlowTM Offers- • Real time voltage improvement and stability • Saves energy • Connects in parallel and it is fail safe • It is modular and expandable Disqualification of other similar products (UPS, SPS) - • Waste energy • Connect in series • Generate harmonics • Limited fixed sizes and not expandable • Bulky and expensive

  10. Three Phase Balancing Problems due to unbalance loading- • Negative voltage sequence • Circulating currents • Increased current in neutral conductor • Increased Neutral- to- Ground voltage • Overheating of motors/Insulation breakdown • Reduced motor efficiency • Motor bearing failure • Increased maintenance of equipment and machinery • Wasted energy/High electric bill • Wasted investment & operating capital

  11. Three Phase Balancing ElectroFlowTM Offers- • Real time phase balancing based X/R • Saves energy Disqualification of other similar products - • There is no such device known in the market

  12. Surge and Transient Protection Problems due to surge and transient- • Increase maintenance and downtime • Reduce lifetime of equipment • Cause computers to stop execution of programs • Creates false data in computers • Erase data in computer memory • Result in hardware damage • Cause damage to insulation in transformers and motors • Cause nuisance tripping of adjustable speed drives • Wasted energy/High electric bill

  13. Surge and Transient Protection ElectroFlowTM Offers- • Infinite response to surges and transient • Saves energy • Provides status indication, using SDF Disqualification of other similar products (,Zener’s) - • Have limited joules/sec. capacity • Re-channel the energy to ground/neutral • No status indicators

  14. Broadband Harmonics Mitigation Problems due to Harmonics- • Overheating of transformers and rotating equipment • Increased Hysteresis losses • Neutral overloading/unacceptable neutral-to-ground voltages • Distorted voltage and current wave forms • Failed capacitor banks • Fuses and Breaker tripping • Unreliable operation of electronic equipment and generators • Erroneous resister of electric meters • Wasted energy/High electric bill

  15. Broadband Harmonics Mitigation • Wasted capacity-inefficient distribution of power • Increased maintenance of equipment and machinery ElectroFlowTM Offers- • Broadband harmonics filtering • Elimination of associated wasted energy • Modular and expandable system for additional load Disqualification of other similar products (Active filters) - • Waste energy • Connect in series • Generates harmonics • Limited fixed sizes and not expandable • Bulky and expensive

  16. Power Factor Improvement Problems due to Power Factor- • Increased line losses- I2R • Wasted generation capacity • Wasted distribution/transformer capacity • Wasted system capacity • Reduced system efficiency • Increased maximum demand and related charges • Possible power factor charges • Increased maintenance of equipment and machinery • Wasted energy/High electric bill • Wasted investment and operating capital

  17. Power Factor Improvement ElectroFlowTM Offers- • Power factor 0.95-1.0 with no adverse side effects • Self Diagnostic Features (SDF) Disqualification of other similar products (PFCC’s/Capacitor bank’s) - • Over voltage, unregulated supply • Susceptibility to surges and transients, reduce Z • Capacitor cell failure • No cell failure protection/monitoring • Harmonics magnification • Resonance and overheating • Leading power factor in low load or no load condition • Increase torque and KW, based on percent loading

  18. Increase KVA Capacity Problems due to wasted KVA capacity- • Additional load requires an increase in supply size • Additional load requires larger disconnecting means • Additional load requires higher rated protecting devices • Cable/bus capacity must be rated higher then necessary • Unnecessary capital expenditure for such wasted KVA capacity • More space required for additional equipment

  19. Increase KVA Capacity ElectroFlowTM Offers- • Balanced-capacity release in KVA capacity • No adverse side effects • More cost effective then any other devices in the market

  20. Optional Features ofElectroFlowTM • Brownout Protection • Intermittent Supply Failure Protection • Specific Harmonics Filtering • Phase Loss Synthesis

  21. Brownout Protection Problems due to Brownout- • Temporary low line voltage • Shutdowns • Loss of microprocessor memory • Loss of control • Overheating of motors/Insulation breakdown • Protective device tripping • Speed variation • Reduced motor torque, which can leads to stalling • Increased maintenance and downtime • Increased operating expenses
