  3. Stones such as turquoise and opal are commonly used as cabochons stones. These are chosen and designed in a particular way to show the surface property or stone colours. The smooth shape of the dome is then derived by grinding the stone using grinding machine specially manufactured to grind stone further, polishing agents are used to give a final polished look to mark it as a finish product. Usually, cut and polished stones are used for jewellery making purpose. The stones that are cut into smoothly into dome shaped are called cabochons whereas stones which are cut using polishing flat windows called facets at different angles. By maximizing light reflection which is viewed as a sparkle, transparent gems are faceted which shows the optical shape of the stones inside view. The optical properties of the gem are achieved by proper cuts of angles of the facets. The skilled craftsmen work carefully on this because if the angles are too shallow, the light will pass and not be reflected. There are different faceting machines available such as special curved laps to give proper cuts and polished curves. For Jewellery Making Purpose: Once achieved the desired cut and polish these stones are used for making intricate jewellery.
