  6. POOSH Scotland • Exists to promote the continuous improvement of the practice of occupational safety and health through education, communication and the encouragement of cooperation between all persons and agencies in the provision of a healthy and safe working environment.

Aims & Objectives • Exchange views knowledge and information • Offer comments on CD’s and national strategies for health and safety • Discuss and develop common initiatives and policies for consideration by PHASS • To promote professional standards and competence among practitioners, including appropriate qualifications and CPD Schemes

Mapping OSH Professional Body Activities in Scotland • Guidance , sources of competent advice and how to select • Reference for regulators, service providers and professionals • Encourage and support professionals from related disciplines to broaden range of skills and qualifications • Provoke and generate debate

  11. Partnership on Health and Safety in Scotland • Aim: to help implement HSC strategy within the context of Scotland’s economy, its industrial makeup and culture. • Action orientated • Clear focus on health and safety • Co-ordinate action between partner organisations

Scottish Executive: Scottish Action Plan on Health & Safety • Promotion of good health and safety practice in Scotland. • Benefits of good health and safety management to Scottish businesses and Scotland’s economy. • Set an example encouraging high standards across public sector • Reduction of burden on health services

Scottish Executive: Scottish Action Plan on Health & Safety • Identifies future collaborative actions in pursuit of common goal • To help reduce preventable fatalities, injuries and work-related ill health to employees and to members of the public arising from work activity • PHASS to provide ongoing oversight and guidance on implementation

Environment and Health in Scotland A new approach • Food for thought • Unintentional injury is one of the main causes of death and is the most common cause of emergency hospital admissions in children aged under 15 in Scotland…. Unintentional injuries are second only to cancers as a cause of death for children aged between 1 and 14 years
