  2. Integration of pediatric research • A major CTSA theme was to foster collaboration across the lifespan ISSUES: • CTSA involved merging Penn and CHOP GCRC’s • CHOP is a free standing children’s hospital, with an independent GCRC established in 1965 SOLUTIONS: • Joint protocol review committee (“GAC”) • Joint cores • Separate budgets • Pediatric representation throughout • Future plans to incentivize research covering the age spectrum

  3. Key challenges • Different clinical skill sets needed for children vs adults • Different priorities for pediatrics and internal medicine • Areas unique to pediatrics • Inclusion of pediatricians on all aspects of the CTSA • Unequal budgets

  4. Goals for the steering committee • Establishing official NCRR guidelines for the substantial inclusion of pediatrics in all aspects of the CTSA: • Ped. research is proportionate to the patient base • Ped. representation in the leadership • Appropriate ped. expertise amongst research staff • Ped. inclusion in training slots • Including peds. in community outreach programs • Establishing regular communication amongst CTSA pediatric leadership. • Establishing pediatric research networks. • Ongoing meetings.
