  2. EU-China Grid Cooperation - Long term Cooperation Promote communication and cooperation between EU and China by conferences and workshops Major Chinese research teams and IT companies attended the events Face-to-face exchange of ideas and opinions enabled by those events Communication with government agencies: EC and Chinese government officials participated in these events and cooperation was planned at the government level • Networking among people in this field has been established and is extremely important for the long-term cooperation • Knowing the leading R&D teams and their activities • Identifying topics and objectives of common interests • Coordinating R&D activities • Planning for the future This networking is more important than individual physical result and has more significant long term impact www.echogrid.eu EchoGRID workshop – Beijing – October 28, 2008 2

  3. European and Chinese cooperation on Grid EchoGRID: Specific Support Action, started 01/01/2007 until 31/12/2008 Partners: GEIE ERCIM (include INRIA, STFC, CNR, FhG), NTUA, Atos Origin, Engineering, THALES, Beihang University, ICT, CNIC, NUDT, HUAWEI • EchoGRID SSA promoting Collaboration through: • Organisation of series of conferences and workshops open to both European & Chinese participants from research, industry, government, SMEs and user communities - Workshops hosted by Beihang University (Feb 07, Oct 08) CNIC (Oct 07) and ENG (Jan 08) - 2 Conferences: 200 scientists and experts in Beijing (Apr 07) and Shenzhen (Oct 08) • Mobility Programme for researchers - Fellowship Program (6-12 months) - Research Exchange Program (2 to 10 weeks) • Grid PlugTests - Jointly organized in Oct 07 and Oct 08 - Interoperability event for Telecommunications, Internet and Information Technology Standards www.echogrid.eu EchoGRID workshop – Beijing – October 28, 2008

  4. Project Outcomes • 3, 5and 10 years roadmaps • developing a shared European and Chinese vision of future GRID research perspectives for both research and industrial communities; • Consolidation of cross-fertilisation • between Grid-related projects, initiatives, and organisations in Europe and China; • Exchange of experiences and best practices • on Grid Open Standards for Grid middleware and applications interoperability and identification of guidelines for building a Standard Quality Assurance Process; • Establishment of tangible partnerships • in Grid research and technologies (creation of associated team,…) www.echogrid.eu EchoGRID workshop – Beijing – October 28, 2008

  5. 7. Future cooperation • We need your feedback on what have been achieved to shape future cooperations • Take this workshop and F2F meetings to start new collaborations • FP7 call5 is next year and it is time to start discussing with people and to join proposals • Participation to ICT 2008 is also a good way to do networking with potential partners to prepare project proposals • Use cooperation schemes provided by the member states and research institutions/universities www.echogrid.eu EchoGRID workshop – Beijing – October 28, 2008
