July 18th-Mon. July 21st (for Competition Team & Team Captains ONLY) • Two Day Camp @ SHS for ALL Teams July 28th & July 29th, 2014 (1-4 pm) • Vacation Mid June Through Mid July-EXCEPT FOR COMP TEAM • Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Playoff games and any other sports the Coaches deem necessary • Local, Regional AND/OR National Cheerleading Competitions For Competition Team

COMPETITION TEAM • Tryouts May 13th-15th 4:30-5:30pm in SHS Cheer gym (closed to public) • Tryout Requirements: • Standing back-handspring (no spot) • Running tumbling pass (no spot) • Double Toe • Special practices (some possibly on Saturdays) • Summer tumbling sessions required at additional cost • Summer stunting sessions with cheer coach

COMPETITION TEAM Must attend NCA Camp at TWU in Denton, July 18th-21st, 2014 (competition team & team captains only) Hand-selected NCA Staff, certified in skills training Indoor facilities with mats All American tryouts and National Bids are offered.   15. EM-S ISD ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT POLICIES as it pertains to SHS COMPETITION CHEER TEAM 1. Uniform- Competitions/Performances       A.  Each team member is to be dressed the same while competing 2.  Student actions that can result in dismissal or suspension from the team.      A.  Drugs- use of drugs by a student/athlete or being where drugs are            being used can result in dismissal or suspension from the team.      B.  Alcohol- use of alcohol by a student/athlete can result in dismissal           or suspension from the team. C.  Being disrespectful to coaches and failure to follow coaches’ instructions during practices or performances can result in dismissal from team or suspension from a competition.      D.  Excessive absences from practice or school can result in dismissal or            suspension from team.      E.  Any actions that a student/athlete commits that are detrimental to           the team can result in dismissal or suspension from the team.  This           will be a decision made by the athletic director, campus coordinator, and           the head coach that is involved.

Cont…EM-S ISD ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT POLICIES as it pertains to SHS COMPETITION CHEER TEAM 3.  General regulations- may result in punishment if not adhered to      A.  If a student/athlete must miss a competition, performance or practice, a member of the coaching staff should be informed ahead of time or immediately,           whichever is appropriate to the situation.      B.  If a student/athlete is injured he/she should see a trainer before           leaving their event or campus.      C.  Student/athletes should be on time for meetings, practices, performances and competitions. Tardiness of 3 or more instances will remove the cheerleader from one or more competitions. 4. Tryout Requirements- Standing Back handspring Double toe Running tumbling pass *Any other incidents will be deal with cases by case at the discretion of the coaches.*

  17. COMPETITION EXPENSES

  18. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONSCOMPETITION TEAM • ELECTED CHEERLEADERS MUST ENROLL IN FALL SEMESTER OF GYMASTICS FOR CHEERLEADERS. You will receive a half credit of PE for the Fall semester only. If you CHOOSE to stay in the class the Spring semester you will receive an elective half credit. • COUNSELORS WILL ASSIST YOU WITH SCHEDULING • See SHS Competition Cheer Team Expectations in this presentation and on the cheer website.

  19. BOOSTER CLUB ACTIVITIES • Concession stand duty is strongly encouraged/recommended for each cheerleader and their parent during the regular football season and play-off season. If not, you will not have money for the annual cheer awards reception/banquet or scholarships for your children. • Fundraising activities to offset competition, banquet, and scholarship expenses. • Monthly Meetings

  21. Tryout Material A copy of the Cheer words will be provided when the clinic begins.

Cheer Clinic for Tryouts • Tuesday, March 18th 4:30 – 6:30 pm • Wednesday, March 19th 4:30 – 6:30 pm • Thursday, March 20th 4:30 – 6:30 pm • All Practices will be held in the Saginaw High School Cheer and Dance Gyms. • Wear comfortable practice gear and tennis shoes. • NO Jewelry or long fingernails or nail polish • Hair neatly pulled away from face in a ponytail

  23. What to Wear to Tryouts • White T-shirt – NO CHEER LOGOS (plain white T) • Cardinal Red or Black shorts NO CHEER LOGOS • Light weight tennis shoes • No jewelry or nail polish • Hair neatly pulled away from face in a ponytail

  24. SHS Tryouts • Friday, March 21st • Candidates arrive at 4:45pm • All candidates meet in dance gym to get numbers. • Bags and purses may be left with your parent/s or in the locker room. Cell phones are not allowed. • Do not bring anything to dance gym but your candidate number and yourself.

  25. Parents • Parents may wait in the cafeteria. Coaches, administrators, senior cheerleaders and candidates only are allowed in the gym/locker room areas. • Coaches/Senior cheerleaders will periodically inform you of approximate time expectations of completion. • Do not take your child away from school until call backs have been completed and a Coach has dismissed your child.

  26. Tryout Process • Candidates will be judged by accredited Judges, including the Varsity Coach. Coaches will choose the competition team. • Administrators and Judges will view the tryout process. • In the result of a tie, those candidates will be called back to break the tie. • Once call backs are completed the candidates will be dismissed by the coaches.

  27. What to Expect at Tryouts • Selection order is made by random draw. • Candidates will enter for judges individually with any tumbling then complete 3 jumps…if no tumbling, then spirit. (All tumbling will be approved on Thurs 3/20 by the Coaches and will be expected to be thrown all year long). • Candidates will then perform the dance and cheer in groups of three. • Candidates will wait in the locker room until dismissed by the Coaches.

  28. After Tryouts • All results will be posted on the Cheer website on Friday, March 21st after all the tryouts are completed. They will be posted by candidate number. • Elected cheerleaders AND their parent/s will be expected to attend a MANDATORY MEETING @ SHS in room B115 on March 24th at 6:30pm. • An initial deposit of $250.00 is required on March 24th and monthly payments of $250.00 will be required until your balance is paid in full…CASH or MONEY ORDER ONLY PLEASE 
