  19. Procedures: Informal Paper Example Victor Hugo Miss Yost English I 24 August 2009 All About Me! My name is Victor Hugo and I am nervous about this school year. I just moved to El Paso six months ago so I don’t really know anyone here except for my cousins. I am living with my uncle because the rest of my family lives in California. I want to move back to California after I graduate, but I can’t go back now because my mom just passed away from cancer. I haven’t really hung out with my uncle that much either, so it’s kind of weird and I miss not being home and stuff. I kinda like English…it’s fun to read things that I enjoy…like cars, offroading, jetskiing and stuff like that, but I have a hard time understanding some words if I’m reading something that I don’t really know about. On my spare time, I usually like to go offroading in my truck, go to the movies, or whatever comes up. I hate crowds, though, so I don’t like to go to places where there’s a lot of people.

  20. Autobiography: All About Me • Prompt: Write an essay that gives insight of who you are as a person. • You need two sheets of paper. • Brainstorm with the first paper. • Create a thesis statement containing two main topics. • Come up with examples for the two topics. • What can be learned from this information? • Write your essay with the second paper. • Your heading follows MLA format. • Your title is centered on the first line of your paper. • Indent when you start. (Create a new paragraph each time you talk about a different topic.) • Prove your intellect.

  21. Procedures: “Where do I place my assignments?” Writing assignments may be asked to be placed directly into your portfolio. For other assignments, simply follow Miss Yost’s directions for the day.

  22. Procedures: “Where do I put my graded assignments?” Rules/Rubrics Writing Skills Vocabulary Notes Graded Papers • You must keep EVERYTHING for documentation and portfolio purposes. You will have a 3-ring binder with the following sections:

  23. Procedures: “What do I do at the dismissal of class?” • The bell DOES NOT end the class. I will end the class. Please wait until I • dismiss you.

  24. Procedures: “What if I am done with everything?” You will ALWAYS have something to do. Your participation grade depends on the effort you show in class.

  25. Procedures: “What if I am absent?” Talk to a classmate for information. Ask me for handouts. Check out my website.

  26. Procedures: “How do I turn in an assignment if I have been absent?” Please write “ABSENT” at the top of your paper. You may not turn in an assignment if you have an unexcused absence. Due projects must be turned in on that day.

  27. Procedures: “What if…?” …I have a question? …my pencil breaks? …I need to use the restroom? …I need to leave the room? Please raise your hand. If I don’t see you… Please walk over to me and say, “Excuse me, Miss Yost.” When I turn and look at you, you may ask me your question.

  28. Sign In/Sign Out Sheet Every time you are late, you must sign in. You must have a tardy pass from the attendance office. Every time you leave the classroom, you must sign out and sign back in. You must take a pass with you, as well.

  29. Procedures: “What happens if I don’t know what to do?” Look at the board/screen. Ask another student. Ask me. As long as you are respectful, you can never go wrong!

  30. “How are you going to grade us?” • We will talk about the grading system in this classroom: • 4 Percentages • Breakdown • Extra Credit

  31. Tests: 40%

  32. Tests/Quizzes • Tests and quizzes will help me assess your progress and understanding of content. • Pop quizzes will be given if class discussions become unsuccessful. If I call on students, and answers can not be given three times during a discussion, there will be a pop quiz.
