MAPS • A plan is a simple picture of the small land, town or building from above. • A map is a picture of the Earth’s surface from above. • A scale makes the things on the map smaller in size (e.g. 1 cm on the map represents 100 km in reality).   8. READING A plan is a simple picture of the small land, town or a building from above. A map is a picture of the bigger land, country or Earth’s surface from above. We can see continents, seas and oceans of our planet in a scale which makes things smaller in size. For example 1 centimeter on the map can represent 100 kilometres in reality. We have got many kinds of maps – tourist maps, road maps, geographical maps.
