Background • 2008: Start APF gender in value chain learning network • 2009: Creation of online community http://genderinvaluechains.ning.com/ • 2012 Publication of “Challenging Chains to Change” and Toolkit Identified needs: • Urgent needtoensureequalopportunitiesfor men andwomen in agriculturalvalue chains • Practitioners need on-the-job-guidance on real-life cases to use these resources and to put gender-sensitive ways of working in practice 2012: experience with 1st gender in VCD coaching track in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Ethiopia

Global Gender in value chain support program 2013 Start global programaiming at: • Development of a methodology at country level which is effective in supporting organizations in putting in place gender inclusive value chain development, which is scalable worldwide. (Countries: Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Benin, Nicargua, Bolivia, Peru, Indonesia) Pillars : • Build organisational capacities • Build expertise in gender and value chains to support these organisations • Learn from each other, within countries but also amongst countries and worldwide • Join efforts and resources (APF network(s))

Expected Results At the end of this workshop the participants will (have): • Insight into key concepts for analyzing agricultural value chains from a gender perspective • An overview of tools which can be used and their pros/cons • Practiced using a selection of these tools, based on their ‘own’ cases • Share a common vision and a clear understanding of the principles underlying the GVCD coaching track. • An overview of possible strategies for gender inclusive value chain development • Set the initial steps towards participants’ Gender Action Planning (challenges, options of strategies, steps and actions) and the formulation of coaching questions.
