  3. Mazda 6 Generations The latest 2014 Model is a second generation model, which means that only two generations have been built so far. The first generation model, which made its debut in 2002, had a lifespan of 5 years. The Japanese automaker offered the option of buying this either as a standard sedan, five-door hatchback, or five-door station wagon.

  4. Engine choices also varied and car buyers had the option of 2.3 liter four cylinder engine or 3.0 liter V6 engine with five speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual transmission. The company also offered a variant of the sedan model, which went by the name of Mazda speed and made its debut in 2006. However, it was discontinued after two years.

  5. The latest generation Mazda 6 was put on the streets in 2009 and came with upgraded engine features like 2.5 liter four cylinder engine or 3.7 liter V6 engine with the option of five speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual transmission. Another strategic change that the company made was that it dropped the five-door station wagon model for the North American market. The Mazda 6, though available now in North American market as a single sedan body style, came with a host of advanced features.

  6. The entry level Mazda 6i SV came equipped with six-speed manual transmission, a four cylinder engine that was capable of generating 170 horsepower. The model had anti-lock brakes and standard stability controls, however, the provision for keyless entry was not made available by the company. The Mazda 6i Sport provided consumers the option of five-speed automatic transmission in addition to six-speed manual transmission that was available with the entry level model.

  7. Other features that were introduced in this model were provision for cruise control, keyless entry, and steering wheel audio controls. The Mazda 6i Touring was a higher-end model that came fitted with a host of advanced features like halogen fog lights, 17 inch alloy wheels and sophisticated audio systems. The Mazda 6i Grand Touring was the most luxurious offering in this segment. It was powered by a four cylinder V6 engine and made provisions for 6 speed automatic transmission. It had 18 inch alloy wheels and a series of other safety features.

  8. Engine Specification of the Latest 2014 Model The latest 2014 Mazda 6 specs include 2.2 liter engine available in both standard and high power versions. The standard version lets out 148 horsepower and 280 lb-feet of torque at 2000 rpm. The high power version generates 173 horsepower and 310 lb-feet of torque at 2000 rpm, and offers both the option of six-speed manual transmission and six-speed automatic transmission.

  9. The Japanese automaker claims that the 2.2-liter’s compression ratio of 14.0:1 is the world’s lowest in a production diesel engine, which enables for high fuel efficiency, owing to optimized combustion timing. Mazda is also making available for the North American markets direct-injected 2.5-liter, 16-valve Skyactiv gasoline engine in the latest 2014 Mazda 6 model. The powerful engine is capable of generating 189 horsepower at 5700 rpm.
