  2. Purpose Provide big picture information on the Title IIA grant Provide a calendar of when important events should occur Address questions or concerns you might have Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  3. Title IIA in a Nutshell A federal grant to support the professional development of educators Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  4. Allowable Uses of IIA Funds To provide professional development for educators Related costs to the professional development (supplies, materials, substitutes, mileage, equipment, etc.) Recruitment and retention of educators Teachers for class-size reduction (CSR) Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  5. Title IIA & Title I Application LEAs can begin working on their application over the summer (even if you don’t know the exact allocation) LEAs can typically spend money upon approval of the application Goal for initial submission: ASAP! Applications are due November 1st! Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  6. Needs Assessment Determines what the highest needs are for the district and schools Must involve those at district, school, and parent level Examples could include: Title IIA Administrator (district) Principals and teachers (school) School Councils (which include parents) Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

  7. Carryover Carryover is needed when the entire allocation is not expended by June 30 FY13 is a unique year for carryovers Typically LEAs apply in October for un-expended funds from the previous fiscal year LEAs must spend carryover funds the following year (“Use it or lose it!”) Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
