  3. Type of Disorder • This disorder is a gene disorder. • This Gene is Recessive. • 1 in 200,000 individuals in the United States will get this disorder.

  5. SYMPTOMSof Werner's syndrome • Body begins to age faster than normal. • Wrinkling and sagging of the face • Decreasing muscle mass • Thin skin and loss of fat under the skin • Graying hair and hair loss • A high-pitched voice

  6. DIAGNOSTIC TESTING • Diagnosis of Werner syndrome is based on physical examination. • If the individual appears to be much older than he/she really is.

  7. PROGNOSIS • The life span of individuals with Werner's syndrome is reduced, with death occurring on average in the mid 40s, most commonly as a result of malignancy or myocardial infarction.

  8. TREATMENT • Pre-natal screening may be available to parents who are considered at high risk of having an affected child. • There is no treatment.
