  3. WHAT IS THE CSMT? The California Department of Education (CDE) Clearinghouse for Specialized Media and Translations (CSMT) is a unit that produces accessible versions of textbooks, workbooks and literature books adopted by the State Board of Education for K–8 students.

  4. California Education CodeSection 60313(a) The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall maintain a central clearinghouse–depository and duplication center for the design, production, modification, and distribution of Braille, large print, special recordings, and other accessible versions of instructional materials for use by pupils with visual impairments or other disabilities who are enrolled in the public schools of California.

  5. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS The CSMT provides curriculum in many formats: • Braille • Large Print • Digital Talking Books • Audio • Electronic files

Instructional Materials Ordering and Distribution System (IMODS) • Online ordering system • On CDE Web site • Must be a registered member • Instructional materials provided at no cost • “Lending Library” – Braille and Large Print should be returned • APH material ordering for registered local educational agencies (LEAs) • IMODS 2.0 rollout expected soon

  7. IMODS AUTHORIZED USER An authorized user is an LEA-designated employee. LEA designees may be: • Director of Special Education, usually the account lead • Resource Specialist • Principal of the school • Teacher or paraprofessional • Others designated by the account lead

  8. IMODS REGISTRATION • The registration form is on our Web site: http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/pn/sm/index.asp. • Print and complete the form. • Have your LEA lead approve and sign. • E-mail the form to CSMT: CSMT@cde.ca.gov.

  10. IMODS LOGON • From the CSMT Web page, click on the link titled: “Media Guide – Instructional Materials Ordering and Distribution System (IMODS)

  11. USERNAME & PASSWORD • Enter your username and password • Press “Log In”

  13. SEARCH OUR SITE • Choose “Browse Catalog”

  14. SEARCH OUR SITE When using the “Browse Catalog” button, you will be able to: • View catalog records • Download electronic files You will not be able to add items to a Materials Request.

  15. BROWSE CATALOG Use the Query line to specify what it is that you are searching for: • ISBN • APH Catalog number • Book title • Product name The Index and Sort by fields can be left at the default values. OR – Press SEARCH without putting anything in the Query to see the entire catalog.

  16. ORDERING • Press the • Choose the type of request:1. APH Repair Repair request for APH materials 2. APH Material Request will be for APH-type materials where Federal Quota funds are used3. Instructional Resource Request will be for a Textbook-only account Click “Next Step”

  17. CATALOG SEARCH The catalog search is displayed:

  18. CATALOG SEARCH Use the Query line to specify what it is that you are searching for: • ISBN • APH Catalog number • Book title • Product name The Index and Sort by fields can be left at the default values. OR – Press SEARCH without putting anything in the Query to see the entire catalog.

  19. SEARCH RESULTS The search results page will display all formats available. Be sure to choose the format you are looking for before adding the selected item to your Materials Request.

  20. FILTER YOUR RESULTS You can use the filters on the left side of the screen to narrow the search.

  21. DOWNLOAD To download a file, click on the link for the specific file type.Selecting “Downloadable” shows only books with electronic files.

  22. ADD TO CART Select as many items as you would like and choose

  23. MATERIAL REQUEST • As you add items, they are shown on the screen: • Choose “Back to material request” when finished adding

AMERICAN PRINTING HOUSE FOR THE BLIND (APH) ORDERS • The APH Federal Quota Program allocates federal funds to public and private education programs that register students who are legally blind. • Congress allocates funds annually. • Agency funding is based on the number of students registered with APH. • An authorized person may use IMODS to place orders for APH products using Federal Quota funds.

APH Orders (Continued) • To receive a username and password for the APH Federal Quota Program, your name must be on the list of persons authorized to submit Federal Quota orders. • The educational agency returns the authorization list in their annual registration packet of qualified legally blind students. • The APH catalog can be found at: www.aph.org

  29. APH • APH accounts navigation bars have an extra tab: • You can check account balances on your Federal Quota dollars.

  30. FILTERING YOUR SEARCH • If you are not APH qualified, youcannot order APH products throughIMODS. You may want to removethose products from your search by clicking on the red X after APH. • If you only want to see the Brailleresults, click on the blue Braille link.

  34. ORDER STATUS SHC = Shipped Complete – on it’s way to you. ASG = Assigned to you, the warehouse will ship soon. None = Needs more attention by CSMT staff. This is not currently in stock on a warehouse shelf.
