  10. Monitoring Report on Field Visits by Satya Vir Singh, Consultant (Agronomy), BGREI, • for the period from 21.07.2011 to 24.07.2011 in West Bengal State. • Purpose of visit: Monitoring of BGREI program. Name of the Intervention: Block Demonstrations. • 24-Paraganas North district.

  11. Actionable points in brief not exceeding 5 observations: • (1) Hard copies of Format No. BGREI-1 (Beneficiary list); BGREI-2 (Rice) with addendum for Information Card of Block Demonstrations; BGREI-4 (Monthly Progress Report-MPR by the district to State Headquarter) and Format No.6 (Monitoring Report to be submitted by SDA staff for BGREI program along with Indicative Check list-Appendix-II) were handed over to ADA (Admn.), office of the DDA (Administration-DDA was on sick leave on 22.07.2011), 24, Paraganas North with the request to get translated the Format No. 2 (rice) in local language for distribution among VAWs/AAO/Progressive farmers for recording relevant observations on Block demonstrations beneficiary wise after completion of the relevant agriculture operations/incurred expenditure and monitoring of the program by designated personnel of SDA/CSSRI. These formats were duly explained to the ADA, Habra-I in the presence of Shri S. Chowdhury, Consultant (RKVY) in the office off Directorate of Agriculture, West Bengal. He was also given the link of the BGREI website to facilitate the download of the “Compendium on Work Breakdown Structure & Formats for monitoring & Reporting)” published by CRRI, Cuttack. WBS compendium was also downloaded on the PC of Shri S. Chowdhury, Consultant (RKVY) in the office of Director of Agriculture, West Bengal, Kolkata on 21.07.2011. He was also requested to forward soft copy of the beneficiary list in the prescribed proforma to BGREI Cell (e-mail ID: svbidal@gmail.com) under intimation to CRRI, Cuttack (e-mail ID: adhyas@yahoo.com, directorcrri@satyam.in). (Action by: ADA (Admn), 24-Paraganas North/Director of Agriculture, West Bengal); • (2) Since Zinc sulphate could not be applied as basal dose-no harm, foliar application of Zinc sulphate (21% Zinc) @ 2g of Zinc Sulphate/litre of water after 30 days of seeding/transplanting-200 litres solution will suffice for one acre-do 4-5 sprays at 5-10 days interval till zinc deficiency symptoms disappear-Docheck with SAU recommendations. (Action by: DDA; 24-Paraganas North/DA, WB); • (3) As boron has also not been applied as basal application, foliar application of boron (Borax or Boric acid) @ 0.50 t0 0.60 g/litre of water at panicle initiation (PI) stage is very effective and useful for healthy reproductive parts-foliar application is comparative more effective in high rainfall areas as leaching losses are more if applied as basal doze. DoCheck with SAU recommendations. (Action by: DDA; 24-Paraganas North/DA, WB); • Designated scientist of CSSRI could not visit the beneficiaries of Block demonstrations till 18th July, 2011. He was requested over phone to extend technological help to the BGREI program as a whole. (Action by: Dr. S K. Sarangi, CSSRI, Canning Town, M:09434709516); • (5) Transplanting of the rice crop has just started in the district. Cleaning of drainage channels need be pursued with Irrigation department/District Collector to reduce submergence in the low lying areas.
