What is the Office of Judicial Affairs The Office of Judicial Affairs seeks to provide students with a learning experience that involves appropriate due process, provides accountability, self-governess, viability, respect, personal and institutional integrity, honesty, and citizenship in accordance with the goals of the College

  2. Services provided by the Office of Judicial Affairs Prevention Programs & Workshops Trained impartial/neutral Ombudsmen/Mediators Community Conferencing Behavioral Intervention Teams (BIT) Peer Mediation Administrative Hearings Grade Grievances Maintaining the Code of Conduct

  3. What is the Code of Conduct? The Student Code of Conduct seeks to foster and promote a sense of respect and consideration of others. BCCC is committed to ensuring a safe, learning environment and pleasant workplace for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, Furthermore, everyone at BCCC is expected to create a positive learning environment through behavior defined as civil. Civility at BCCC is defined as behavior that demonstrates respect for the rights, needs, and feelings of others.

  4. What is expected from all students? Enjoyment Courtesy/Civility Responsibility Honor Respect

  5. What types of behavior are considered violations of the Student Code of Conduct? Disruptions to the learning environment Verbal and/or Physical Assault Possession, manufacturing, sale of illegal drugs on campus Theft Misuse of computer resources Cell phone use (other electronic devise) in the classroom

  6. What happens if there is a breach of the Student Code of Conduct? The site Ombudsman/Mediator will attempt to resolve violations without having a formal hearing. If the case can’t be resolved without a formal hearing, it will be heard by the Incident Management Advisory Committee(IMAC). The Committee submits a written report of its findings, conclusions, and proposed sanctions to the Vice President for Student Affairs for final disposition.

  14. What is the order of things? Follow the rules Private meeting with faculty or staff Teamwork Ask for help from Judicial Affairs staff

  15. Scenarios?? You are asked to write a paper in your Pre 100 class on “your reason for being in college”. You are really back up in your other classes. Your best friend, Sally Student has already taken Pre 100 class before. Sally offers you her paper for $25.00. Is it a violation of the Student Code of Conduct? Let’s talk about it??? What to do???

  16. Scenarios?? You are in a lab class, where others are working at computer stations. The instructor has requested that all electric hand held devices be put away prior to the start of class. You come in to class listening to your MP3 player. Is this a breach of the Code??? Let’s talk about it? What to do???

  17. Scenarios?? You are in between classes, outside in the hallway, with a group of your dearest closest friends on campus. You are having talking and carrying on, feeling like are quite at home. A faculty/staff person requests that you please lower your voices and watch your language while in the hallway. Is this appropriate & civil behavior to be displaying in the hallway? Let’s talk about it? What to do?

  18. Scenarios?? You are having a disagreement with a classmate over a group project. Tempers begin to escalate, voices begin to rise…… Let’s talk about it??? What to do before something bad happens???
