  9. George Washington & his men attacked French troops in the Ohio River Valley. Brief victory Built Fort Necessity but forced to surrender How did the conflict begin?

  10. What was the Albany Plan of Union? 1754- Ben Franklin  representatives from New England, NY, MD, PA • plan to unite the colonies for defense • Called for a Grand Council

  11. Not 1 colonial legislature approved the plan- no one wanted to give up powers to a central council.

  12. Fort Duquesne – the British- General Edward Braddock -defeated badly by the French. Defeats for the British

  16. 1758-1761  *By 1761, Spain has become an ally of France

  17. 1763  Treaty of Paris France --> lost Canada, lands east of the Mississippi River. Spain -->got all French lands west of the Mississippi River, gives up Florida England -->Canada & all French east of Mississippi

  18. - The French were completely kicked out of North America. However, French people continued to live there. France Loses!

  22. II. Colonists start to move west a. Colonists wanted to move onto the land that the British gained during the war LIFE AFTER THE WAR

  23. - Natives that fought along side with the French began to block them LIFE AFTER THE WAR

  24. b. The British became angered - The British were forced to send troops to protect the colonies LIFE AFTER THE WAR

  25. How did the War affect American Colonists? • It created bitter feelings towards the British. • Colonies would be taxed to help pay off British debt

  26. This cost a large amount of money & they were already in debt The British began to feel that the colonies were becoming a burden LIFE AFTER THE WAR
