  3. What do you need for e-commerce? • A Basic PCThis technology will work with most computers • An Internet ConnectionBroadband is not essential, but it helps! • An Email AddressA simple, free email address such as one fromBT or Freeserve will suffice

What is Kickstart? • A scheme originally developed by Bristol Council and @UKPLC to encourage local SMEs to trade online • Brings together local government with business training and support organisations in a joined-up initiative: • A Kickstart team is created within the Council to contact local companies • They are invited to workshop at local College to set up own e-commerce sites - there and then! • Business change support by Ufi/learndirect, local Chamber of Commerce etc • Telephone help-desk, @Assistance available

Newham Kickstart Project Aims • To increase the number of local businesses using modern e-trading methods • To increase the number and percentage of Newham-based suppliers trading with Newham-based public sector agencies • To promote local awareness of the benefits of the types of e-trading available to them and their customers

  7. Why East London Online? • Business is no respecter of Council boundaries and the new technology is making this even more the case • Newham is committed to playing a leading part in stimulating skills, jobs and economic growth across the whole East London community to which it belongs

Kickstart Offer • Free basic entry level e-commerce website on EastLondononline portal • Usual cost £48.00 per annum • First 100 companies only • Free broadband and online training courses from Newham College of Further Education(subject to conditions) • Loan of PC, if required (subject to conditions) • Free support from local agencies

Broadband Offer • To qualify for re-imbursement of Broadband line rental charges (max £25.00/month), complete one course per month (around12 hours/month of study) • To qualify for a loan computer, enrol for the suite of IT courses that make up the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL): • Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database, PowerPoint, Information and Communication, Concepts of Information Technology • 90hrs of study - can be easily completed over a 7-month period at 1 module per month

Broadband Offer • You can also go for a higher recognised qualification: MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) • There are a total of 5 modules for MOS • Complete these successfully and the loan PC becomes yours to keep • You also get a further 5 months of BB re-imbursements • You can continue to receive BB re-imbursements after the initial 12 months by continuing your learning in areas other than IT • Choose a course from: Management, Customer Services, etc. See course list

  12. Setting up an online cataloguewith @UK PLC could not be easier • From scratch • From a database or accounts package such as Sage, Excel, or an existing catalogue • Your catalogue cancontain product orservice-based items

  15. Editing your listing is straightforward All of the information on your listing can be viewed or edited from this central page.

  16. A typical listing A typical listing features a homepage, contact page, and product or service catalogue. You can upload images or logos for your listing.

  17. Edit your listing online Simply click ‘edit’ and make your changes – your listing will be updated in 5 to 10 minutes

  18. A product listing page This is where your product or service range is listed, along with a short description of each product.

  19. Change the look and feel of your listing You can change the design of your listing by choosing from a number of professionally designed templates.

  20. Ecommerce options You can choose how you receive orders and what methods of payment you accept (e.g. online banking).

  21. The order process • Order is created • checks your catalogue entry • gains authorisation • returns approved order • Enters details into accountspackage if required

  22. Order or quote notification by email Full details of your orders/quotes are sent to you via e-mail.

  23. Payment by credit card/ account If you have online banking, transactions will occur as soon as orders are placed.

  24. Your e-Invoice and delivery note • The invoice will be created instantly using the @Ukplc system, or can be automatic from your accounts package • The purchaser can also view this invoice online at any time.

  25. All invoices are accessible online The latest transactions page makes it easy to quickly view recent invoices.

  26. More management information to help you manage the changing business environment Graphs of sales per month allow you to quickly spot trends

  27. Keep track of general statistics Information such as total number of customers and total number of transactions is instantly available

  28. Referer tracking Referer tracking allows you to keep track of the success (or failure!) of any advertising strategies
