  3. Commitment to build technology-based industry • Building quality programs in focused areas that impact the region’s high tech industry • Commitment to expand services to industry, entrepreneurship education, incubation, tech transfer, & actively support high economic growth

Industry Clusters AND Areas of UCF Focus • Optics /Photonics (College of Optics/CREOL) • Simulation (Institute for Simulation and Training) • IT / Computer Science (nationally ranked program) • Aerospace / Aviation (Florida Space Institute) • Energy (Florida Solar Energy Institute) • Materials Science and Engineering (AMPAC) • Substantial new investments in nano and life sciences

  5. University-Industry Partnerships • Grand debate, conflict of interest, and other pot holes. • “You do not do partnerships because they are easy.In fact they are hard. You do partnerships because you can attack bigger, more important problems.” • UCF does not require faculty to work with industry but… • We encourage it, we facilitate it, and we provide incentives for it.

  6. $2 MM/year in cash match to company projects • Joint marketing and other partnerships with state and regional EDOs and UF and USF • Joint lobbing for education at all levels, programs of benefit to industry, etc. Florida High Tech Corridor

  7. UCF Incubation Program • Today serves 64 clients and 23 graduates. Clients have created 900 jobs @ $60k avg. salary, generate $200m+ annual revenues, secured $170m+ investment capital • Stakeholders today are UCF, Orange Co., City of Orlando, FHTCC, Seminole Co., and Metro Orlando EDC, Winter Springs, etc. • NBIA Incubator of the Year in 2004
