California State Universitywww.csumentor.edu • Application • www.csumentor.edu • Copy ALL documents submitted • Print receipt of application submittal • Costs • $55 per campus • Fee waiver embedded in online application (maximum 4) • Deadlines • Filing period: October 1 – November 30! • Testing: EPT & ELM placement tests ( Exemptions: i.e. SAT/ACT scores, EAP results, AP exam results) • Activation Code required to start application (code sent to email). • Impacted majors and impacted alternate majors will affect submission/admission. • Cal State LA will guarantee admissions for our students if student meets the minimum requirement

  15. Personal Insight Questions (Answer 4 out of 8, 350 words per question) • Start your Personal Insight Questions early. • Be clear. Be focused. Be organized. • Do not manufacture hardship. • Write persuasively and give specific examples. • Use “I”and “my” statements • Focus on content and NOT creativity, entertainment or uniqueness. Other Application Procedures • Watch for and respond to all college correspondence! • Mostly done through e-mail! • Use an appropriate email address & check daily. • Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) – varies by college, usually around May 1st. Typically requires monetary deposit to ensure enrollment at school. The fee is non-refundable. • Housing – deposit is often required • Transcripts – submit only upon request of college • Please note: Transcripts must be ordered through Student Bank • Final Transcripts – Student must request from MKHS Student Bank in May and pick up from Records Office in June.

Letters of Recommendation • UC • No letters of recommendation required, with exception of UC Berkeley who will contact the individual student. • CSU • No letters of recommendation required * EOP applications require two recommendations (from counselor, teacher, employer, or other community member) • Private • Letter of recommendation usually required… check with individual private universities

Letters of Recommendation (for private colleges & scholarships) • All requests should be given to counselor/teacher/community member/employer AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! • Requests submitted with less than two weeks’ notice will not be honored. • Any requests for letters for applications with deadlines in January must be submitted by Friday, December 2nd. • What is required: • Copy of “Senior Information Packet” • THE MORE YOU GIVE, THE MORE YOU WILL GET!!! • Optional: Copy of a college application essay or responses to UC Personal Insight Questions

  25. Financial Aid • Financial aid presentations will be held for students in October. Dates to be determined. • For additional assistance on the FAFSA, workshops for students will be held at lunch. Dates to be determined. • FAFSA Application opens October 1, 2016. Deadline March 2, 2017. • Cal Grant Release Form OR Opt-Out Form should have been submitted to Records. If not, do so before October 1. • Cash for College Workshop (FAFSA) • Saturday, January 21, 2017 - at AHS • 9 am – 12 pm • All students should attend, regardless of college path! • For More Information • www.fafsa.ed.gov

Scholarship Information • Visit www.mkhs.organd the Career Center for updated scholarship resources. • Scholarship Bulletin: www.tinyurl.com/markkeppel-scholarships • Scholarship searches on the Internet. • Be wary of scholarship scams! You never have to pay to apply for a scholarship. • Check place of employment, church, organizations to which you belong, local newspaper, etc. You must invest time and energy in scholarship search & application! • Check with the individual colleges/universities as well. • It is recommended that students fill out a Senior Information Packet if applying for scholarships. • Lastly, we encourage students to always follow-up with a thank you card to all organizations that grant them scholarships.
