  1. The Digestive System By: Leighton Weber

  2. The Organs • The esophagus, the liver, the stomach, the small intestine, the large intestine, the pancreas and the gallbladder.

  3. The Mouth • The food’s journey through your body all starts in your mouth. • You chew the food which breaks down the food into smaller pieces. • While that is happening, your tongue is mixing saliva into the food.

  4. The Stomach • In the stomach, food is mixed with enzymes, which helps break the food down. • Food moves through your stomach in two to four hours being changed into chyme.

  5. Small Intestine • First bile is added to the chyme. The bile breaks up the large particles in the chyme. • On the walls of the small intestine are villi. • Molecules of nutrients move into blood vessels within the villi.

  6. Large Intestine • In the large intestine water is removed from the chyme and it becomes a solid. • Then it exits through the rectum.

  7. The Purpose • The purpose of the digestive system is to break down food.

  8. Other Systems • The digestive system works with the circulatory system because nutrients from the food is carried through out the body through blood. • It also works with the excretory system because the excretory system removes waste made from food.

  9. My Model • I made my model out of newspaper, masking tape, and paint. • My model is a one to one scale of the average 12 to 13 year olds digestive system.
