  8. Identification of Each Song The Wet, Dark, Dusty Seam is a tribute to my father and his work in the mines. New Waterford’s Calling speaks of the sadness in the close of the last mine and the feeling of nostalgia in wanting to return to one’s roots.

  9. Identification of Each Song La Joi Du Paradis (The Joy of Heavenly Bliss) is tribute to my mother and father for their strong faith, courage and sense of perseverance. Bringing Up The Coal is a light hearted song which anticipates the re-opening of the mines in Cape Breton.

  42. The Present Context It is incumbent upon us to learn from our History. Some Cape Bretoner’s never thought that the Coal Mining Industry would come to an end. Some pessimists believe that Cape Breton will die a slow death and the Island and its inhabitants should be tugged out to sea.

The Present Context The closing of the last coal mine was a shattering event for miners and their families There are mixed reactions to the closing of the mines varying from optimism, negativity and disillusionment. I have chosen to sing about my own nostalgia related to the mines and an inherent desire to return to my roots

  49. The Greenest Coal Plant in Canada The new Genesee 3 power plant is the most advanced coal-fired facility ever built in Canada. A $90 million investment in clean air technologies cuts nitrogen oxide emissions in half, and stops 99.8 percent of fine particulate from reaching the atmosphere.

  50. To help meet Canada’s climate change commitments, EPCOR has also reduced and offset Genesee 3’s greenhouse gas emissions down to the level of a modern natural gas combined cycle plant.
