  2. Why is VPLEX Unique? VPLEX enables users to: • Have the exact SAME information • In two separate locations • Accessible at the SAME time from both locations

  3. VPLEX & AccessAnywhereTM Enabled by Distributed Virtual Volumes • Provides shared storage, concurrently read and write accessible, with the same storage identifiers, across sites. • Supports all major EMC and Non-EMC FC storage platforms. • Supported by nearly all open systems application clustering technologies. • Simplifies High Availability and Disaster Recovery design and operations. • Enables 100% storage availability. 4. VPLEX makes VNX Active/Active Increase Availability, Increase Capacity, Increase Performance Building Block Approach to Storage • Load balance across multiple VNX arrays to maximize utilization and performance. • With VPLEX, two VNX arrays can be configured to provide full online redundancy for each other within or across sites. • Data remains available and online, even if a whole array fails. • Lower cost of entry, size for now and scale non-disruptively in the future. 6. VPLEX Witness plus Cross-Cluster Connect Site 1 Site 2 • VPLEX Witness • Coordinates seamless failover • Enables longer distance for stretched server clusters • Provides zero RTO for storage changes or events • Cross-cluster connect • Ideal for shorter distances • Leverages multipathing software • Trade off of higher host availability and CPU cycles • Reduces server failovers VPLEX WITNESS Site 3 Federated AccessAnywhere Active Active • No more than 5ms round trip latency between clusters • With Cross Connect latency must be no more than 1ms • Witness can have up to 1 second of latency

  7. Introducing VPLEX into Your Environment Encapsulation Method Host Data-in-Place Migration (No data copy) • Connect to VPLEX and mask volumes • Import volumes into VPLEX (1:1) • Unmask old path • Present volumes from VPLEX • Remount volumes Minimal Disruption VPLEX Array

  8. Use Host Based Tools :Storage vMotion or Volume Managers Connect additional storage to VPLEX Create volumes in VPLEX Present volumes to the host Use host copy tools to copy data from array to VPLEX volume Introducing VPLEX into Your Environment • Host Migration Method No Disruption Host VPLEX Array Array

  9. VPLEX for Migrations Limit Risk – Less complexity, fully reversible Save Money – Lower or eliminate services costs Faster Time to Value – Leverage new arrays in days Powerful TCO – All future tech refreshes are FREE! No Downtime – Non-disruptive process 50%+Lower Service Cost 50%+Fewer Operations Hours FREEFuture Migrations

  10. Disaster Recovery Traditional VMware DR Active-Passive Solution Traditional Active – Passive Solution Certified • Manual intervention to initiate failover in the event of an outage • Dynamic job relocation (vMotion) only possible within the datacenter • Site failure or major infrastructure outage results in application disruption • Double the capacity, but only the I/O utilization of one array • Additional, inaccessible servers required at DR site HA SRM Array Replication Active Failure Domain Passive Failure Domain

  11. Continuous Availability, Next Generation DR, Load Balancing VNX with VPLEX for VMware– Active/Active Solution vMotion across datacenters for non-disruptive load balancing, maintenance, and workload re-location Automatic failover and restart between the sites using VMware HA - no manual intervention The loss of a storage array or requirement for planned downtime does not result in ANY application interruption VMware DRS for full utilization of compute and storage resources across domains Certified Active – Active Solution VMware vMotion VMware HA VMware DRS VMware FT VPLEX Metro ActiveFailure Domain Active Failure Domain

  12. Certified VNX with VPLEX + RecoverPoint for VMware Three Site (Synchronous and Asynchronous) Availability Enhanced Availability VMware vMotion VMware HA VMware SRM • Combines short- and long-distance (1000s of km) • Leverages SRM for DR site • RecoverPoint integration eliminates HW requirement VMware DRS VMware FT VPLEX Metro EMC RecoverPoint Automated Failover Automatic Failover Active Failure Domain Passive Failure Domain Active Failure Domain

  13. Oracle RAC can now achieve dual-site continuous operation without complexity and ongoing management issues VNX with VPLEX for Oracle RAC Extended Clusters for Continuous Application Availability • Zero RPO and Zero RTO over distance • Full utilization of resources at both sites • Simple management • No customization – standard Oracle RAC implementation • Full certification from Oracle Certified

  14. What’s new with VPLEX 5.2 • Extends VMware Integration:Support of hardware acceleration using VAAI Block Zero • Virtual Volume Expansion: Expand local and distributed virtual volumes non-disruptively • Larger and adjustable IO Block sizes: Increase VPLEX performance and network utilisationrates by increasing the IO Block sizes from 128KB up to 1MB • Enhanced RecoverPoint Integration: Increases scale from 2K to 8K volumes via multiple RPA clusters • VPLEX frame-based licensing with VNX: This new licensing option makes VPLEX easier to order with VNX arrays • Free Migration License: Unlimited capacity, 180 day license for tech refresh • SRM Suite VPLEX Report Pack: Delivers health reporting for the VPLEX directors: Frontend and Backend IOPS, bandwidth and status; Virtual Volume health; locality, read/write IOPS and status; storage volumes health; capacity planning and trending; performance metrics

  15. VPLEX allows customers to never have planned or unplanned downtime again – all data is continuously available VNX with VPLEX for Continuous Operations Improved Availability, Mobility And Accessibility • Increased availability • Zero RTO and Zero RPO over distance • Full utilization of resources at both sites • Accelerated tech refresh • Ride through component or VNX array failures • Active-active data access • Increase resource utilization

  16. Autostandby • Currently in PowerPath, if you do not want a path used, you can set it to standby • Autostandby adds a trigger that causes a path to be put in autostandby mode • Behaves just like standby • User set standby always has precedence • Use cases • Detect a flaky path • Detect groups of paths connected to local and remote array controllers in a federation (VPLEX Metro)
