  1. 6.6 Organizing Data Using Matrices Objective: Organize data into matrix Perform matrix operations

  2. Vocabulary • Matrix: • A rectangular arrangement of numbers in rows and columns enclosed in brackets. • Another way to organize data • Element: • A number in a matrix

  3. A matrix is described by the number of rows and columns it contains this is called the Dimension

  4. Example This matrix has 3 rows and 2 columns Therefore it is a 3 x 2 matrix

  5. What is the dimension of this matrix? 1 x 4

  6. Which element is in Row 1 Column 2

  7. Which element is in Row 1 Column 4

  8. Table

  9. Page 370 # 2 For a matinee, a movie theater charges $5.25 for an adult and $4.50 for a child. Evening admission is $8.75 for an adult and $5.75 for a child. Organize the prices into a matrix. What are the dimensions of the matrix?

  10. NOTE If the dimensions are different we CANNOT add or subtract them.
