  1. K Known: What do you know? Reread the scenario and make a list of what is known. Include any background information known about that topic or related topics.

  2. W WANT: What do we want to know? What do we need to know? Some questions may address concepts that need to be learned in order to address the situation. Other questions may be in the form of requests for more information.

  3. H How: How are we going to find out? Plan the investigation. Divide duties. Question an expert, get on-line data, or visit a library.

  4. L Learned: What have we learned? Prepare a report or presentation in which the group makes recommendations, predictions, inferences, or other resolutions to the problem.
